Is it possible to run BOINC on OpenSolaris (x86) for WCG and, if so, any known issues? Any resources I should check out? Thanks.

No, only Windows, Linux, MacOSX and PPC (partially) have WCG sciences ported to these platforms. xxxSolaris is a rarity. Think only those looking for ET have a science compiled for that platform.

Thanks for the info. I appreciate it.
The reason why I ask is that I have another box that will be wiped and an OS installed soon. It's primary job, other than some network stuff, will be WCG crunching. My first pic was Solaris, but I can install a Linux distro instead. Is it safe to assume Ubuntu will be OK? Thanks again. |

Ubuntu is the distro that the developers use to build/test the client and WCG does their testing too. Just installed WUBI UBUNTU 8.10 over Vista (dual boot). Unfortunately have not been able to get the wifi working (802.11N), so it was back to Vista again.

Thanks again. Sounds like Ubuntu would be a good option then.
Thanks for all your help Sekerob. |

Can you get & run WINE (Windows emulator) for Solaris, and if so, could BOINC & WCG sciences be run under that?
----------------------------------------Or, you can run some Linux binaries (on Opensolaris) inside Branded Zones (??) Ubuntu sounds easier tho. [Offtopic & real reason for the post]: For a machine that sometimes runs Linux and sometimes runs Windows, is it possible to copy the BOINC data directory back and forth, thus preserving the work queue and checkpointed WUs in progress? (I have successfully swapped data directory between XP-32 and XP-64 for benchmarking only, but I have never uploaded results from the OS that was not used to download the WUs).
