Parmesian, I think you're going to have to relinquish your "Chief Lurker" title at long last to harry_i_c. Reminds me of you not so long ago. biggrin If we can coax you out into posting, then there's hope for Harry too! laughing Come on Harry, we'd love to hear from you.

Dave, without my third cruncher, you should catch back up and pass me for the year to date. It's been a nice quiet little "competition" but I don't stand a chance now.

You'll catch up quick. One of the first things I did after leaving IBM was an upgrade at home (and, no, it was not an IBM PC) biggrin

We certainly have been lock step, though!

Dr. Mike, good luck choosing your new machine when the bonus money arrives! I'm no PC geek like some folks here wink so I like to go for reliability and good support. I'm happy with Lenovo on reliability and their hardware support is very good. With software, you're best going to whoever put it out. Dell has been known for good machines but the company has had some rough times and I've heard their support has suffered. That could be turning around. If you're comfortable with HP, go with that. That's the main thing - get what you're comfortable with - and get a desktop. Warranty service seems to usually be on-site for that. With laptops, you tend to have to send those back in for repair. With on-site for desktops, you can save opting for 9-5 M-F instead of 24x7 and that should be more than adequate. Good luck!

It's a good thing the wife doesn't know much about computers. I'd have never been able to get my daughter a quad! laughing I don't plan on making any upgrades. My next cruncher will hopefully be my new work machine, wherever that turns out to be. For now, I'm learning that the misery isn't over. Now I get to wade through transitioning every thing. Got the paperwork coming to start my pension coming. It's nothing like what it could have been but it will pretty much cover the mortgage payment. More paperwork coming on options for rolling over the 401k (deferred and Roth both). Tomorrow I suppose I'll tackle the medical insurance. Oh, word is I can't get unemployment until the severance runs out but it would probably be smart to have the paperwork filed for that anyway. Hopefully, I won't get to draw any. biggrin

I'll never forget the sight of a '69 Charger Daytona getting smaller and smaller in my rear view mirror as we raced over highway 17 from Santa Cruz to Los Gatos.... in the days before traffic made such a thing impossible. Ahhh... good times those were. cool

I know that route well also. The best part is from Los Gatos to Scott’s Valley. biggrin That’s Blizzie’s stomping grounds. Today if you want to race there you’d have to get out of your car and jog between the other cars. laughing When I lived in the Bay Area ... back in the day ... there was a popular bumper sticker which read, “Pray for me. I drive Hwy 17.” But it was for road rage not for racing.

I remember that bumper sticker. I've been in Silicon Valley since it was called Silicon Gulch.... back when agriculture was the largest industry.

Yeah, I also could not get the unemployment until severance pay period expired. I then found that the monthly unemployment check was reduced because I was drawing my IBM pension. While the monthly check was reduced, the number of weeks I could draw it was extended. As it was explained to me, I was given the same total amount over the extended period I would have gotten had I received full unemployment checks for however many weeks it would have been normally. I think I ended up drawing reduced unemployment checks for close to a year and a half (when I was laid off, I think normal unemployment was 27 weeks and this was then extended by another 13 weeks by Congress).

How cool. I grew up and went to college in San Diego but spent most of my career in the Bay Area with Banks. I lived most of that time in Corte Madera in Marin County. Moved East as a consultant to our State of Confusion (oops California). I finally retired to live in paradise in the foothills. Good to have you at MOT! cool

Highway 17...... crying
I dislike that highway so much. I get motion sickness.

@Dataman/Jonathan: Does anyone mind if I sell that 9800GTX+ to my friend? I'm going to use the money and see if I can get another 260 GTX. It kind of has sentimental value though... too bad it's not the same card that traveled back and forth. crying It's better if I have matching cards so the Shade cores are the same.

I bought the original card ... or should we say “spawned” the original card. It’s yours now. You have my blessing to use it, sell it or run over it with a steam roller. Are you sure you want the card from h3ll to infect another person? It does have some “history” though. As far as I can tell, I am the only one to get it to return a result ... though they were few and far between. Go for it. biggrin

You won't be the only one. It's crunching right now. Going to see how many points I get. biggrin
