I went to: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/reg/ms/viewDownloadAgain.do and the only available version is a 6.2.28 x86. Where can i get this version but a x64?

Thank you

Re: Just a question

It's a conundrum maybe. WCG only provides 32 bit sciences, but it would make sense too to have a 64 bit version compiled too, particular since the HCC project benefits from it. Generally 6.2.19 64 bits would be the one to go for. 6.6 is still not finished.

Here's the link http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php?all_platforms=1

Their site is down presently as so often (from my part of the world). The WCG download come from Berkeley who compiles and hosts them on behalf of WCG.

Re: Just a question

How exactly does a 64 bit BOINC client help anything? In normal use, boinc.exe will have less than a minute of CPU time per day.

Re: Just a question

Thank you Sekerob,

I have visited the link that you provided and find the following versions
Windows 6.4.7 Download (6.65 MB)
Windows 64-bit 6.4.7 Download (7.31 MB)
Mac OS X 6.2.18 Download (6.27 MB)
Linux x86 6.4.5 Download (4.37 MB)
Linux x64 6.4.5 Download (4.58 MB)

I didnt see that 6.2.19 for x64 that you talked about. The version 6.2.18 is for MAC OS X. The most feasible version is the 6.4.7.
What do you think?

Thank you again.

With a 64 bit system you can provide a better precision when you are using floating point.

This only 1 advantage, you have more!

Re: Just a question

Zigfried,

Still I'd go for the latest 6.2 for your OS unless you need CUDA capability. Still the site is inaccessible to me, so I can't give you the link.

For WCG it makes squat difference since the 32 bit processing client results must equal those coming off the 64 bit clients i.e. even if 64 bits offers greater precision, it cannot be employed (The Homogeneous Redundancy requirement within a platform group). Specifically though the integer intense HCC benefits though from 64 bit... about 20% I've read.

Hi Sek, i will only change to a CUDA version (6.4.7) if i can use it here at WCG in case not, i will look for the 6.2.19 version.

Re: Just a question

Zigfried, that is wrong*.

It is also irrelevant. The science application remains 32 bit, so there is no advantage at all in using a 64 bit client.

* I'm sure you can find some special cases where it is true, but that isn't generally the case. And I can't even find any special cases....
