How do the Increase in XXXX challenges work? The Increase in XXXX challenges, can also be viewed as "percent increase" challenges. In these challenges, a baseline is calculated based on the recent daily average production for each team in the challenge. During the challenge, the daily team statistics are averaged for the current duration of the challenge and then the baseline average is subtracted to yield and average increase (or decrease). That average increase/decrease is divided by the baseline average to determine the percent increase/decrease. For example, if a team averages 3 days of Run Time per day leading up to the challenge, and then averages 4 days of Run Time during the period of the challenge, the percent increase would be 33%. The math would be: (4-3)/3. The final winner of the challenge will be the team with the largest percent increase over their baseline average. In your Challenge topic is only mentioned that the recent daily average is used for the calculation. I want to know how many days are recent and used for the baseline calculation and is this a straight average. TIA [Edit 1 times, last edit by TKH at Jul 10, 2009 12:03:44 PM] |

Who knows are bankers involved: 30 days is the base afaik.
----------------------------------------added: quote from the back room: We're going to allow teams to compete on % increase in Run Time, Results Returned, and Points. There will be a baseline period of 30 days prior to the Start Date of the challenge which will then be used essentially as the denominator for determining the % increase. It does take into account if a team has not been productive for the entire 30 days before the challenge.

Who knows are bankers involved: 30 days is the base afaik. Thanks Sek for the answer. Because bankers could be involved, I checked the baseline in the FIM Sidecarcross WChampionship Challenge of our team BOINCstats. I already thought the answer was 30 days, but because of a difference between my calculation and the baseline on the challenge page, I better ask before complaining. 27-02-2009 220126 28-02-2009 199964 01-03-2009 132142 02-03-2009 139258 03-03-2009 128575 04-03-2009 116528 05-03-2009 123098 06-03-2009 116835 07-03-2009 132612 08-03-2009 162594 09-03-2009 177025 10-03-2009 165611 11-03-2009 180878 12-03-2009 175374 13-03-2009 161180 14-03-2009 159416 15-03-2009 196453 16-03-2009 175409 17-03-2009 192173 18-03-2009 197198 19-03-2009 230659 20-03-2009 164948 21-03-2009 138145 22-03-2009 151816 23-03-2009 180602 24-03-2009 162371 25-03-2009 137061 26-03-2009 114845 27-03-2009 130264 28-03-2009 131493 Average 159822 and the by WCG calculated baseline is 156256 ![]() A banker can not be involved since it's in our advantage ![]() Any idea? |

Eeep!
There is only one way that average can be calculated, and it is not right. |

Eeep! There is only one way that average can be calculated, and it is not right. I suppose all baseline calculations are done in the same way. Will this miscalculation be repaired in the near future? |

The calculations are wrong, but they are not unfair, and do not particularly contradict the published information.
I will push for it to be fixed, but I can't see it as a priority. |

CP,
----------------------------------------Before you notice and ask, there is another known bug in the challenges of the "increase" category. The rank shown in your team's stats page is wrong and does not match what you see in the challenge page itself. The rank in the team page is wrongly based on the "current average" number instead of the percentage. So for your challenge, as of yesterday night, your team was 18th as shown in the challenge page, and not 5th as shown in your team stats. Cheers. Jean. |

CA's, thanks for answering. @Jean, I already noticed this and also reported it in the forum several months ago. I also asked if it is not possible to put ranking numbers on the challenge pages so you don't have to count your ranking by hand. Althought no priority, I hope also the minor bugs will be fixed sometime. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Crystal Pellet at Apr 4, 2009 5:53:26 PM] |

Althought no priority, I hope also the minor bugs will be fixed sometime. Me too, and I wish they are fixed in the next website update (date unknown). Challenges have been launched by WCG to help motivating teams. If their numbers are unfair or even "only" wrong their effect could be worse than if there was nothing. Cheers. Jean. |

Average 159822 and the by WCG calculated baseline is 156256 This will be fixed in the next release. It is currently computing the sum of the previous 31 days and dividing by 32 (which is wrong). After the change, it will compute the previous 30 days and divide by 30. We will not retroactively change this for challenges in progress, but it will be correct for future challenges.
