Hi,
I have problems installing WCG software, i follow the instructions from the webpage but I can go only as far as accepting the licence and then the next window BOINC Configuration is telling me that "the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable" and prompts for the alternative path which I don't know. Later I receive message "Error 1706". Please let me know if there is anything I can do to install the WCG on my laptop, thanks! |

Hi, Olga.Skiba
There are a few possible causes for this error. What version of Windows do you have? Are you trying to upgrade BOINC? |

Hi, I'm using Windows XP and I'm not trying to upgrade, just trying to install for the first time.
Thanks! |

Hi,
----------------------------------------The network resource problem normally is when a previous BOINC version was installed and the package cannot find the location. Error 1706 was discussed long time ago here: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=8781#70828 Are you installing whilst having administration rights?

Having the same problem. Trying to upgrade to 6.2.28, on Vista 32bit. I have admin rights.
"No valid source could be found for product World Community Grid - BOINC Agent." There is no boinc.msi file anywhere on the system. |

ti1ion, it sounds like the uninstaller for the old version is unavailable on your computer, and this is causing the upgrade to fail.
Tell me what version you currently have, and I will provide you the installer so you can uninstall it cleanly. Yes, ironic, I know - needing the installer to uninstall.... |

Thank you for the download link. Unfortunately, it resulted in the same error. My solution was inelegant, but effective -- I searched for, and removed, all boinc entries in the registry. I was then able to install the latest client.
Thanks again. |
