Hello vep,
----------------------------------------I don't have any idea for the reason of your installation problem. But looking on your hardware resource, I am not sure that it will be very efficient to run boinc on your laptop: the memory size is really too short for both Win XP as well as for WCG-WU. Your processor is not very fast and it will spend a lot of time by swapping activities. For my-self, I operate exclusively for WCG an old laptop (Acer TM) running Centrino (1.6 MHz) with 512 MB RAM and from time to time it has to swap ! ... Good luck, Yves --- I earn around 180 credits daily with the mentioned configuration. |

It's an Acer laptop TravelMate 290LCi, OS Windows XP on Intel Centrino Mobile, Intel Pentium M 1.3GHz, 256MB SDRAM I agree with KerSamson, this computer needs more RAM. I suggest upgrading the RAM to 2GB (the max for the 290). Overall performance of the computer will improve and it will be better able to handle the Boinc projects. My wife's computer is a Centrino 1.3GHz that came with 512MB RAM and runs WinXP. When we upgraded the RAM to 2GB my wife was very pleased with the improved performance. Memory swapping went way down, even with Boinc working on WCG projects. |
