hello everybody, in my team home page WCG is suggested as te Project of the Month but many members do not participate 'cause of the low points. Reading some forums I learned that, for example, in ABC with a 48.000 seconds WU, you gain 700/800 points.
I prefere choosing projects for others reasons than competition between teams but, I suggest you to consider to increase your point system, according with Boinc. Thanks a lot Pier Andrea Bertola |

BOINC credits are not comparable across projects. Projects are completely independent, and you will find a few projects offer silly amounts of credit. Others, like World Community Grid, have not changed the amount of credit they grant since they began. We see this as fair.
So, don't try to compare credit between projects. Even if some projects offer comparable credit, you are still comparing apples and oranges, and the parity is not guaranteed to last. |

Mi dispiace, Pier Andrea, but WCG gives credit for work in strict Cobblestone compliance... 100,000 credit per teraflop of processione.
----------------------------------------We know about the different credit deviations and why ABC has inflated the credits leaves to consider that it's maybe the main way for them to get participation at all for a somewhat esoteric mathematical answer... the triple, and only in a limited range, since else that project would run ad infinitum. Anyway, here we Fight AIDS, Cancer, Dengue, Hepatitis C, Hunger and research on Clean Energy that does not require fossil fuel to burn. My team will have their POTY. We'll work to get WCG at the top during the March elections, then double our contribution during April, maybe more. ciao PS, variations of mosquito carried Dengue have appeared in Italy in recent years. In Emilia Romagna there were a large number of cases of chikungunya. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/6981476.stm

Pier Andrea Bertola, take a look at my signature. I have been running Gpugrid work units for a month and I've been here at the WCG for two and a half years!
----------------------------------------Didactylos Projects are completely independent, and you will find a few projects offer silly amounts of credit. So I totally agree on this one (let's NOT make this another CUDA thread..) But we are not here for the points, right? cheers Mika

You are right on the mark with that mikaok. This is though about a choice of POTM, which is something where everyone of a team can contribute, wherever they are. With CUDA it's a fraction... not exactly "team" is it?

Thank a lot to everybody for your kindly answers. I would like to say that I completely agree with Boinc members choosing projects accordingly with reasonable and REAL objectives.
I invite anyway WCG to see a better "pointing" in order to obtain a massive participation to their very important projects. Actually I have 2 cpu working exclusively on WCG and I will certainly stay there and increase when a big Climate Wu will be completed. Ciao Andrea ![]() |

Credit escalation would just lead to a credit war. It would be a hollow victory: other projects would increase their credit in an effort to keep up.
World Community Grid have a more effective strategy: we don't target those people already contributing to BOINC projects. Instead, we look for new members, nearly all of whom will crunch exclusively for World Community Grid. The strategy works. |

ciao Didactylos and thanks for your answer,
it was just an idea.....I'm new here and, you know..... Five minutes ago, after reading your message, I have decided to abandon Primegrid in favor of WCG and, maybe tomorrow I will abandon Climate.... I'm doubting about Spinhenge....sincerely, what do you think about? Is it a good and serious project in Cacer research? |

Well, I know what I think :-D
But you might want to start by having a glance at the early results from our projects, here: http://wcg.wikia.com/wiki/Publications Help Defeat Cancer, for example, was hugely successful. We hope our present and future cancer projects will produce equally good results. |

I am sure there is a need, for instance, to know what the biggest prime number is.
IMHO, you just cant compare a cure for cancer or food for the world or clean energy with a prime number. You might have a case for comparison with better climate or weather control, but if we don't heal ourselves, there will not be anyone left to greet the Extra Terrestrial life if/when it arrives. |
