Updating BIONC to work with Nvdia CUDA Technology

I hope the WCG software developers read this.

Nvidia, the graphics giant, has had a technology called CUDA out since last year, what CUDA is is a programming language based off of C that allows programs to use the GPU on the graphics card as a proccessor, this would allow a computer with a CUDA enabled graphics card to also donate the graphics card processing power to the WCG.

Also, Nvidia has recently released what they call a Tesla card, it looks like a graphics card but each one has 4 gigs of ram on it and a 1 teraflop performance capability (1 teraflop = 1 trillion floating point instructions per second, my intel core quad 3.2 ghz only outputs 55 gigaflops), simply put, it's a supercomputer in the size of a graphics card, it fits right into a pci-e x16 slot. The great thing about these cards is that they are reasonably affordable. They cost about 1600 US a piece, and are as powerful as 250 single core processors running around 2ghz.

Incorporation of CUDA into the BIONC software could greatly increase the load capacity in the future, and since these cards are fairly low cost I'm sure some people might buy them just to help out the WCG. I know I would. And anyone with a newer graphics card nvidia 8000 series and up, have CUDA capable cards, being able to harness that extra power as well may just save lives.

Peace..

The software developers are NOT WCG, the applications software is provided by the projects**edited for intolerance**tkh

Re: Updating BIONC to work with Nvdia CUDA Technology

So happens the CUDA enabled 6.4.5 version was updated to a beta 6.4.6 version due significant screensaver issues.

Off topic, and my last post in this thread 37 or 38 on GPU processing: I'm testing the very latest point release and still finding bugs and recurrences of bugs previously fixed, just on the interface side. I urge restraint to use it in regular production, unless you have to in participating at e.g. GPUgrid... I lost all and everything on the last test. All 12 projects attached to the client thoroughly gone without a single bit to trace.

Hi gqmetalhead,
laughing You sure got a reaction.

GPUGRID at Barcelona is running a CUDA project on BOINC at http://www.gpugrid.net/ Some WCG members are participating and it is interesting to follow their adventures. There are some fascinating threads over on the GPUGRID message board. We may support CUDA in the future, but there is nothing definite to say right now.

I hope the WCG software developers read this.

I hope the CUDA afficionados read this list Posts containing CUDA or this one if the first one is too short Posts containing CUDA or GPU
crying

Sigh. Jean.
