And the reason is that we have some awesome communications people doing press releases for each launch. They asked us to keep things quiet until the press releases go out and we intend to abide by their wishes.

You do have a straight answer. It's the same every time this question is asked: World Community Grid policy is to not announce launch dates ahead of time. I don't come to the forums often and have only recently started looking at them again after 3 years away, I also only started running the Beta testing a couple of months ago. I confess that I didn't check the FAQs for this answer first - I assume from the bluntness of your response that I would have found it there? I'm sure this was a more friendly place when I left? People seem to be very tetchy in their responses to pretty innocent questions. It makes me wonder whether I did the right thing coming back? |

Hi, gordoma.
It's not your fault at all that these same questions keep being asked. Kremmen, to whom I was replying, is well aware of this particular policy. So, not tetchy: just to the point. :-) |

Just imagine that you have a job where you are asked to answer the same question several times each month for several years. Then imagine writing a FAQ that answers the question so that people could find the answer. Finally imagine being required to reply to users that ignore your FAQ, ask the question anyway, then act nasty when you answer the question (that you could have looked up). Chill A better reply would have been a full apology and your thanks. |

Astrolab... FYI
----------------------------------------Just imagine that you have a job where you are asked to answer the same question several times each month for several years. As I mentioned, I have not been on the forum for a number of years and only started Beta testing in the last couple of months. Then imagine writing a FAQ that answers the question so that people could find the answer. Finally imagine being required to reply to users that ignore your FAQ, ask the question anyway I was trying to make a reference to the fact that if indeed this answer is in the FAQ then it is not clear where it is. My query was about beta WU release and was quite specific to a project phase rather than a general query, so it did not occur to me to look in the FAQ. It has already been made clear that type B beta testing was on the way, I was just curious how far off it was - more of a follow-up to a previous post. I did read through the FAQs again before I came back the the forums to reacquaint myself, but don't recall seeing anything about this. It's possible that I may have missed it, perhaps you could tell me where to find it as a further scan through doesn't give me any clues? . then act nasty when you answer the question (that you could have looked up). Chill I was simply taken aback by what I felt was a terse response to an honest query about the project. I'm keen to play an active part, contribute to the forums and help out, but looking through a number of threads I am increasingly finding many angry posts and others which have had to be edited by moderators to avoid offending people. This is a very different WCG from the one I used to visit and I just felt disappointed that I might end up only lurking around the team threads and the chat room in future like so many others, for fear of abuse from other crunchers. It's a sad state really. A better reply would have been a full apology and your thanks. I thank the Community Advisors, Admins, Techs and everyone else who is helping to keep other crunchers informed and on the straight and narrow. I don't feel that I have anything to apologise for. I was only asking a question and expessing a concern... especially as I am made to feel as though I no longer have the right to free speech here any more. |

Don't pay any attention to astrolab - you have nothing to apologies for. I'm sorry you have had such an unpleasant experience.
Astrolab: be nice. And for future reference: we have no problem answering any questions, whether they are in the FAQ or not. |

Thanks again Didactylos
----------------------------------------Maybe I've just become more sensitive since I was last here (It's a long shot, but it's possible) Astrolab... No hard feelings? |
