After reinstalling Vista (Home Basic) I reinstalled Boinc (6.4.5 same as before) and got incorrect To Completion times, for example a WU had reached 50% in 4 hours while according to Boinc it would take another 18 hours till completion. In the end it was finished in another 4 hours like one would expect.
So after some searching I found out that 6.4.5 was a bit instable for WCG and installed 6.2.28. Now my CPU times are incorrect. A Rice WU completed a while ago which ran about 17 hours, Boinc gave a runtime of 10 hours. Anyone have a solution for this problem? |

Yes, wait......it takes a few days for the run times to settle down....

Hi Loli Squad.Kuro Kagami ,
----------------------------------------It's a double deficiency: 1. Non deterministic computations do not allow exact prediction how many operations need to be done for a result. CEP has that to an extreme. 2. BOINC adjusts TTC based on estimated % completed for a result and extrapolation the time computed so far. Whatever factor comes out at the end of a result between original estimate and the final is stored in control values used in estimating duration of new results. Effectively, if a project mean has 100 gigaflop per result but the population varies between 10 and 300 gigaflops, wholly unpredicatably, BOINC can't possibly correctly estimate up front or early in the run how long it will take. Added: One wishlist item is having a result Duration Correction Factor (rDCF) "per science". BOINC stores only 1 for WCG. The year 2013 is a maybe, so just let it run and it will wise up over time.

Hi, Loli Squad.Kuro Kagami.
I think you are mistaken. Nutritious Rice for the World tasks always run for 10 hours (or 6 hours, for the new batches). Why do you think it ran for 17 hours? Refer to my colleague's answer for how estimation works. |

Maybe it was 17 elapsed, 10 CPU?

Ah of course, stupid me, I set it to 60% CPU time. >_>
As for the problem with the To Completion times, if I understand Sekerob's explanation correctly the estimated time it would only confirm that something was wrong with the time calculation of my 6.4.5 installation. Cause 6.2.28 and 6.4.5 on another machine calculate it pretty correct. Ah well, it's work fine now. ;) |
