Re: .

Good morning all.

Another great railway trip is the steam train from Pickering to Whitby, For the price of just one ticket (Return) you can get off at any stop, look around the area, and proceed on the next train. It stops at such places, for example,as Goathland where they did the filming for "Heartbeat". (The area is now known as heartbeat country"). Another great day out.
The same journey at Christmas has Father Christmas giving out the goodies to all who travel whilst Christmas lunch is served!

Re: Weather

Still not found my photos yet but had good fun looking "on line" at the images

part of the single track at Hartfield..

East Grinsteads other claim to fame (apart from being where Ivan went to school that is).
The queen Victoria hospital in the Town was the Headly court of ww11 The plastic surgeon Archibald McIndo was a pioneer in re constructive plastic surgery on badly burnt Servicemen. These guys had badly disfigured faces or Limbs They acquired the nickname of belonging to the guinea pig club his new untried methods made them back into human beings I can remember being on the bus en-route to the weekend visit to an aunt in Felbridge when these fellers got on & when I think back with quite horrific injuries but always cheerful. laughing and joking with the other passengers who took their appearance in their stride. I guess everyone knew how they got to be in that condition and treated them with the respect that they deserved, possibly everyone on the bus had relations that had served in the conflict .
Unlike the people near to Headly court in present day, who objected to the limbless service men in the swimming pool because it upset the children ......NIMBY folk.

***********

I was a member of the peanut club that helped fund facilities
for the wards dealing with the servicemen

I had the badge on the left just for membership the smarter ones you obtained I think for raising cash to help the cause

Re: Weather

Evening all

I remember the guinea pig club very well. I used to see the guys in the waiting room at the station when I was there on my way back back home from school.

I also had a visit to the hospital to watch some of the operations going on. McIndo was a great hero of the time.

And for something completely different, my first Sainsbury's was there ..... in a church.

Re: Weather

Evening all

Quiet in here today. Heavy showers has meant no great wish to spend much time outside. It now seems to be trying for a 'red sky at night' so maybe my walk to the supermarket tomorrow morning will be reasonable.
