Re: Gibberish

Evening all

I've just had another good day at Lord's so I won't get embroiled in the language discussion other than to say I do have a TEOL/TRFL diploma whilst doing some teaching of junior executives in Germany and the thing to learn is that quite frequently there is no one right way.

Our current view on grammar is that it is descriptive and not prescriptive so that modern grammar books will say something like 'Most people will use this structure but this other is now in common use so that things that jar with me like the subjunctive like
'If I were you' can now be expressed as 'If I was you'.

Due to cunning planning on my part, checking the weather forecast, I saved myself the effort of putting the sprinkler on the lawn at the weekend. cool

Just as well, the poor grass would have drowned. devilish

Re: Gibberish

Everywhere is very wet so obviously rained a lot in the night. Brightening up a bit now but I think it is probably going to rain again at some point today. Rain I can cope with, 'sabotage' is another thing altogether!! sad
