Evening all
I don't think they can have been referring to Shakespeare's ages of man but it sounds like a good deal of fun, good on ya Merle. The Tedding here was pretty light today and intermittent so my weekly walk to the supermarket was again unaffected and I didn't need to put the brolly up once. It's a tough financial time for me; my wife's her daughter and my tow daughters have birthdays in November and December and then Christmas follows hard on their heels. I'll have to wait until the two months rate free months to recover. Saw the Cumbria floods on the news last night; pretty frightening and I gather that a copper lost his life; must have been horrific. |

The trouble with the heavy rain fall in the hills of the lake district . of course it makes its way to the sea via the rivers already pretty swollen
----------------------------------------The river meets the sea and here's the rub we have had very high tides Midday midnight tides are the highest 8 and 9 metres should there be a onshore wind it stops the tide going out fully before the next high tide . the river doesn't have a free path and floods nearest flat land Waters a powerful force. The tide doesn't stop for anything several villages round here have tide tables along side the bus timetable roads have signs Libel to flood at High tide . Its much more extreme this time of course the death of the copper swept away with the bridge that looked very substantial till the water hit it ......... |

Ivan, I have to ask
---------------------------------------- If you walk to the supermarket for the weekly shopping, (as I know you do) do you walk back too? If so, how do you manage to carry a week's goodies? ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Nov 20, 2009 7:38:03 PM] |

Now that the chief thingy in Belgium (Sid Rumpo?) has become boss of the EU, he could make Brussel Sprouts compulsory

Morning All.................
----------------------------------------Being an Idle Person I Use the car, dropping in to The supermarket as I pass by on my daily rounds. I do walk in to town about a couple of miles but catch the bus back (free with Bus Pass) if I have shopping . > Our Gardener Hasn't yet learnt to drive Aged 40 !!!! He turns up with leaf Blower strapped to his back Strimmer on his Crossbar other sundry tools in Panniers. I saw him in Sainsbuggers car Park last week loading his Bike He had a Huge military type Rucksack full. The fully loaded trolley was being decanted into the panniers A truly heroic shopping trip ............ A down side to using Supermarkets is the need to get a ticket to park half hour free then its two quid for about two hours redeemable on purchase in store after you have slipped into town for other shopping . Spot the flaw in this??? when you get home you remember the parking ticket you had forgotten still in your pocket. These car parks are not administrated by the stores. A private Stasi Force with silly big peaked caps and faux police type uniforms carry out this task. The local Pizza hut ,PC world and Laura Ashley live on a small development that is monitored by CCtv recording your car number plate on and off if you spend longer than two hours a couple of days later you receive a nasty letter asking for £100-00.......... have a shopping free weekend everyone ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by densnaps at Nov 21, 2009 8:08:53 AM] |

tis good to see you are not totally buried in underground chambers psssh, only in summers this arky doesn't like cold and damp circumstances (i make a great bacteria) Now that the chief thingy in Belgium (Sid Rumpo?) has become boss of the EU, he could make Brussel Sprouts compulsory we can only hope, but haiku herman wasn't really known for his strong and powerful deeds in internal politics, he could try to force it down everyone's throat at official dinners in brussels muwahahah ![]() |

Evening all
Boss of the EU is a massive overstatement. The result shows that the powerful individual States have no wish to give up their powers and 'President of the EU' is not going to sit at the same table as the presidents of the US and China to sort out the World's problems. They seem to have chosen a couple of very efficient functionaries, which is what the heads of the various States probably wanted. A fully elected President of the EU certainly won't happen in my lifetime and probably not in my daughters'. Mild here today with a bit of drizzle now and Merle to clarify, when i moved here I decided that it was a good time to give up the car, free travel pass an all. So the biggest Sainsbury's is just under three miles away and I decided that was a fair bit of weekly exercise to add to the shorter bits of daily needs. And, of course, I can't carry the results of the visit , so we have a cab back (my wife catches tho bus there) which costs a fiver, with tip. It would cost that to order on line and let someone else do the choosing so it's a no brainer. A mean lot up at your end Den. The car park here is big and free. My only 'oldie' moan is how still perfectly healthy and fit people with try to pinch the Blue Badge or shoppers with Children sections just to save 50 metres walk. |
