Put the flashing baubles up round the porch and outside, new fangled LED ones that last for ages and use less watts, what! All in long strings which hang from plastic hooks that I put up last year for the first time. Only took about 20 minutes to string 'em out, a doodle which makes it easy for my old bones! wink

Re: The Autumn chill

Hi ho yesterday was indeed a grand day out
leaving of Lancaster @ 0843 two mins late the virgin train pulled in clean and tidy .when I booked the tickets back in september I was unable to make seat reservations (dunno why) so was a little concerned that Mrs Snaps AKA Chocolateorange and I might have to be fighting for Bum space .
But no worry's the train continued to a tad behind due to a Maintenance train breaking down in Warrington Ban Quay station so we were directed on to the slow line
but the speed picked up after this
8th of December was to be the Due Date when Richard Branson gave up the franchise but all that fell through
The Virgin service is clean and fit for purpose Dont change it
Euston at 11.15 then let battle commence
Hoards of country folk in wellies with straw sticking out of their collars getting off main line train (other times I have traveled underground tickets could be purchased on the train)
Right no tickets , follow the crowd funneled down to the depths

boiling cauldron of upset bewildered people .
us Brits stand in line the other toss pots jonnie foreigners push and shove .
I do think that the transport folks dont have it right ...

Re: The Autumn chill

Having let us northern peeps in, after the event they didnt want to let us out.

Earls court staff wouldn't let us out on to the forecourt for those of us heading to Earls court underground station

The Met police were controlling the exit / entry to the station
X thousand bodies wanting to get on the tube frustrating at the time but in real time it worked very well Brownie points to those in charge ........//..

.

I had a Tube day ticket for the two of us

but such was the volume of people the gates were just opened

come one come all

Two changes to get back to Euston
I guess that its bread and butter to you Ivan
but to me and Mrs Snaps Chocolate Orange ex smoke people
its a bewildering event .

so busy The nice thing was that although
the underground carriages were full
several Young folk offered a seat to Mrs Snaps

Restoring faith in how people behave

Back at Euston around six pm we could have caught the 18.30 train but opted to catch the booked with seat reservation 1930 event . Popped into cafe Rouge just outside the station concourse for a steak and chips , so that killed an hour can say that its a good meal without any bother
I Did object to paying over the day to spending a penny oh long lost phrase ...... The day cost us sixty pence for two peeeeees each when you've gotta go you've gotta go and so on.
The train due to connect at Preston the Virgin ends at Preston

just amble across to the Barrow local train ten min overlap

NO THE BL*****Y TRAIN HAS BEEN CANCELLED

no platform staff there to tell us this vital info

just happened to catch a whisper that there was a coach to pick up onward passengers.

us onward passengers all of a certain age running up steps across platforms mostly very un happy
too out of breath to raise complaints, anyway up we got home a little after eleven shaken and not stirred.

as I said a great day out
