If you refer to my post under "No work being sent" thread I stated:
Does anyone find it ironic that as of the date of this posting the WCG home page banner reads "Clean Energy Needs You" yet there is currently a sever paucity of WU's available to crunch? I understand WCG is always trying to recruit new members, but how would a new WCG member feel if they signed up their computer(s) to work on this worthwhile project and find no or very limited amount of WU's available? The reply from Didactylos ,Community Advisor, was: In the rare event that no work at all is available for a particular project, most members manage to be patient. We have plenty of other projects after all. But when there is simply very limited work, it is assigned first to those who have chosen the project exclusively. Anyone expecting instant gratification from World Community Grid is really doomed to unhappiness, anyway. Humanitarianism requires the long view, patience, perseverance and hope. The overwhelming attitude of members (in my experience) is a positive one. I do agree with Didactylos, and these WCG projects are to designed to further science and help humanitarian causes. I believed WCG should have featured another project, such as HFCC, until CEP was fully ramped-up with WU's so that new members would have an initial positive experience. Admittedly, l was also venting my frustration with CEP with that post, however in the long haul we all doing in this together to help excellent worthwhile Humanitarianism causes. |

Using a banner from a project that is not suffering through growing pains would, I believe, better represent the WCG image of providing real benefits to all of humanity.
I do appreciate how hard everyone is working, scientists, WCG techs, site admins, volunteers, and crunchers alike but seriously, how do you think someone who is drawn to WCG for CEP feels when they are *invited to join* only to find there is nothing to do? I was not trying to suggest that anyone is purposefully doing anything wrong, and I apologize for using a negatively charged phrase in my original post. |

I set my quad to CEP only and last night and this morning it picked up 16 CEP tasks, so they're out there (2 day cache).
----------------------------------------On multi project profiles and the low weight, you'll see few. Same for days only saw 1 or 2 RICE and even rarer DDDT. The widest availability is clearly with FAAH/HCC/HPF2/HFCC. When looking at the overall, things are very normal to me, to include the workweek effect and the reflection of the strong growth, somewhat obscured by the run time target increase to average 7 hours instead of 6.

There are a few CEP units out there today, not many I'll grant you, but some. I've a 2 day cache currently and there are a couple of CEP in amongst the others today. I must have struck lucky and been asking for more work just as todays pile were dropped into the server because they weren't in my cache yesterday evening.

Hi Snow Crash,
The banner and video were in the works for a while and we just happened to hit some work unit production snags at the same time that WCG updated the web page. We are really grateful to all the crunchers and IBM for their continued support. As lawrencehardin said, the three of us are working on keeping up with the "fire hose" volume...it is certainly a departure from our typical methods! Leslie and Roberto CEP Team |

Dear Leslie and Roberto, CEP Team
I appreciate that you have the hard part (real science and analysis) and are doing you best, and am grateful that you and your team, who are certainly smarter and more capable than I, are working on solving tough solar energy issues. ![]() I just I think it would be more effective to wait until you are ready to handle the load of results we will gladly send your way and that it should be easy for WCG to change the banner. Until I volunteer to help out in some way beyond just crunching I will get off my soap box and let the people who are directly involved make the decisions without being second guessed by me. ![]() |

I joined WCG just to work for CEP as I believe clean energy is important to our future. The WU's dried up and I went back to SETI for a while. Then I found out I may well have thyroid cancer, so I switched my 5 dedicated crunchers back to WCG and also now crunch HCC. However HCC has now well overtaken CEP in crunched wu's.
----------------------------------------It's a bit annoying as I have a quad and 4 dual's just waiting to crunch, and at this moment all of them have a 1.5 day cache of HCC not a CEP in sight!! Bernie [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Apr 7, 2009 9:08:12 PM] |
