Problems switching device profiles between 100% CPU and any less

When I decided to switch my device profile to 100% CPU time, I was unable to do this without first switching it to maximum performance, then saving that profile, then switching to custom settings Now, for testing purposes, I need to set it to less than 100%, and despite switching to a custom setup and entering a smaller percentage, I've seen no sign that any workunits are actually using less than 100%. Even telling it to switch to standard settings had no effect on this. Are there any more settings I need to know about?

I''m using BOINC 6.2.28 under 32-bit Vista SP1.

Re: Problems switching device profiles between 100% CPU and any less

Hello robertmiles,
Nothing more. Once you have saved the new profile on the web site, all you need to do is force an update to make your BOINC Manager download from the web site.

I assume that you have not set any local preferences, since they override any general preferences on the web site.

Making the BOINC manager download from the web site was an expected step, and didn't help.

I never set any local preferences, but apparantly one of the BOINC projects I participate in did just that without telling me.

However, I finally got a working procedure over at RALPH@home.

Advanced menu/preferences ... make the setting ... click "Ok" button ...

Changing the setting there from 100% to 90% finally worked.

I also got a procedure for going back to the web settings; untested so far.

Advanced menu/preferences ... click "Clear" button ...

I'll try that when I no longer need the 90% setting for RALPH@home tests.
