Hi all.
As a current BOINC user, I wanted to have a look at the World Community Grid, maybe to find support for ATI-GPU/Stream crunching etc. However, I can't see that the SETI project,Rosetta, Einstein@home etc is listed anywhere among the projects available. So my question is; Is the BOINC manager capable of the same things as the WC Grid software? In that case, would I be better off using BOINC instead? Please bear in mind that I haven't installed the World C.Grid software yet. ;-) Best regards Chiron, No(r)way |

There is no "BOINC vs. World Community Grid".
World Community Grid use the BOINC software. Simply attach to www.worldcommunitygrid.org and you are done. Enjoy. |

You're thinking of the old United Devices (UD) agent. That was really kind of an antique since it didn't even support multiple processors. It was however darn near bullet proof - at least in my experience - and worked well on slower machines.
----------------------------------------The final switch over I think happened last year around April or May I guess. Of course the applications managed by boinc will be different at WCG, but that fact will hopefully be transparent. edited for inappropriate language...cih ![]() ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Feb 8, 2009 10:19:37 PM] |

Ok, thanks for clearing up my mistake. ;-)
So I can add the W.C.Grid to BOINC then... As a single project? Sorry if I'm "out on the hills and far far away..." ;-) I don't understand these systems, but luckily my cpu does. Best regards Chiron |

Thanks for answering so fast, the BOINC manager has really made things a lot nicer, especially when people just want to donate, and don't have that deep understanding of how it really works. Kudoz to the creators. I hope the user-base have grown and will continue to grow. So now I'm only waiting for ATI Radeon 4xxx support. ;-) I think i read somewhere that it's in beta, but that could just be a misunderstanding from my part. There's actually new software by Simbios called OpenMM which can utilize any high end GPU. This was just announced to day and it's n...o incorporate into BOINC.

Hello chiron69,
Once you have attached BOINC to World Community Grid, you can sign in to the website and select My Grid - My Projects to deselect any projects that you do not want to run. Lawrence |
