The icon used to be showing in the task bar at boot up but not anymore. I tried starting the program from the start menu but got message saying another instance of the program was running. Only solution was to go into task manager and manually end the UD.exe process and then I was able to start the program (via the start menu) and it returned to the task bar. However on the next occasion of boot up the icon is missing again (but the UD.exe is running).
I have Panda Platinum Internet security 2005 running at boot up and it is granted outbound access only by Panda. My OS is Windows XP SP2 I would like to get my task bar icon back so that I can end the application without having to use task manager. Any help is appreciated. |

You might try right clicking the task bar and bring up properties. Then uncheck "Hide Inactive Icons" at the bottom of the window. I have had this problem with the icon for Popup Stopper Free Edition and haven't pinpointed why yet. There are quite a few hits searching the net on this. I found this recommendation at http://www.tech-pro.co.uk/howto_013.html. I am not so sure that this will solve your problem though. Perhaps someone else might be able to shed more light on this. I will keep looking and will post here if I find anything better. |

Hi,
One common cure for missing systray icons is to disable UPNP and SSDP services. I found this on a WinXP newsgroup and, although I fail to undestand the relationship, it worked for me. François |

Hi François --
I think you are on the right track with this suggestion. I found another source at a website "Windows Problem Solver" which can be found at http://www.michna.com/kb/WxSystray.htm which looks to be pretty current information. The solution you mention appears among those listed. The one found to be the most successful he called "The Ostuni Workaround". I quote from the page, Francesco Saverio Ostuni wrote: "... I found a solution for me that works perfectly. I simply went to My network Places and on the left pane I chose to Hide UPnP devices. This operation does not disable the service (which I need)." Another that sounded interesting was to implement something to delay items in the startup list. The author of the page had received a couple of e-mails indicating that R2 Studios "Startup Delayer" had solved the problem. The download page for this can be found at http://www.r2.com.au/software.php?show=startdelay. |
