Well, the first result is in:
----------------------------------------Error: <core_client_version>5.4.11</core_client_version> <message> process exited with code 29 (0x1d) </message> <stderr_txt> Calling gridPlatform.init() Calling initGraphics() INFO: No state to restore. Start from the beginning. Encountered error. Exiting. </stderr_txt> WU: E000337_ 700A_ 00250s00q_ 0-- This was on a Quad-core Intel Xeon, running with Debian-Etch. I expect a lot more results the nixt couple of hours, let;'s see what they bring. On another machine the BOINC client was stopped due to a segmentation-fault .This machine is a dual-Quadcore Xeon, also with Debian-Etch installed [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Feb 6, 2009 9:02:59 AM] |

I've been digging a bit in the segmentation-fault issue.
This occured when the first CEP WU is being sent to the machine. It was the WU: E000336_ 971A_ 00250b00b_ 0-- |

Why still 5.4.11 as client?
----------------------------------------Completed 2 on the new 6.28 science version. Log is clean, on quad, Vista though.

Very few, Harreld. Your version is two major versions behind the first version recommended by World Community Grid, and four versions behind our current recommended version.
Unfortunately, BOINC does not maintain a stable release; they just plough ahead with new versions. |

Be cautious: members have had many problems with Etch. The latest BOINC versions are unlikely to work at all.

Yep, I seems that I have to upgrade to Lenny...
Need GLibc 2.4... So currently not an option for me. I think it is better then to stay on the current version. |

I would appreciate that a knowledgeable Linux cruncher checks what I will say below. I am so surprised!...
----------------------------------------After having received 4 CEP WUs in a quad running HCC usually I could not wait and decided to suspend all pending HCCs plus the the latest started one in order to have one CEP start. First good surprise: top says there is almost no page faulting. Second surprise: the system CPU share which was about 27 % with 4 HCCs dropped to 20 % with 3 HCCs and 1 CEP. I had to reread top's summary several times to make sure I was reading correctly. Well fine, let's start a second one. Still no page faults and the system % falls to 15 % (2 HCCs + 2 CEPs). Amazing. I start a third CEP and with 1 HCC + 3 CEPs the system % is now about 7.5-8 %. Just for testing (I have to finish these HCCs sometime anyway) I start the 4th CEP and the system share is now below 4 %. This is in on a Q6600 under Ubuntu 810 64-bit with Boinc 6.2.15 if that matters. WUs are running fine up to now and should last about 9 hours. Cheers. Jean. |
