every task running high priority

Hello, since few days I have few problems:

1) Every task downloaded gets status "running, high priority", thus preventing the client from getting more job to process when finished. If I don't have a connection, I stay with no work.
Is it normal that every task runs in high priority?

2) I had a look at the messages in the BOINC manager and found a line which I don't like:

25/01/2009 18:53:34||System clock was turned backwards; clearing timeouts

Is there anything I can do to bring everything to a normal situation?

Regards,

Witold

Re: every task running high priority

Hi, Witold.

Assuming the first problem was caused by an inaccurate computer clock, which is now fixed - you should be good to go.

But if you're at all concerned, then please post the entire message log, and we can confirm this for you.

This means that your clock used to be set in the future. However, now it is correct, so you should have no problems.

Please post again if you have any further problems.

Re: every task running high priority

I don't thinkl everything is ok now.....This message shows up in the log everyday since few days, and I don't touch system clock.
I always have only as many tasks as the number of cpus - 2, both of them running in high priority.
Any way fixing this?

Regards,

Witold

Re: every task running high priority

The "running high priority" message isn't an error.

Really, you have nothing to worry about.

Maybe you would like to increase your work buffer in your preferences? That will ensure you have extra work available if you don't always have an Internet connection available.

I know that this message isn't an error by itself, but it I never got it before few days ago. And now *every* task runs in high priority and that seems a bit strange to me. Am I wrong?

Maybe you would like to increase your work buffer in your preferences?

I did it, but to no avail. BOINC gets only two tasks, because I have two CPUs. Before the high priority problem started I always got some extra work.

Re: every task running high priority

cafeina,

Seemingly a new message in BOINC 6.4.5 as response to a changed device date/time setting. Any time the clock is set backwards you effectively impact the duration before returning some tasks. This likely resulting in wrong control values that BOINC uses to do the scheduling e.g. the rDCF. Let it run, leave the computer on-line and in a few days it should rectify itself.

Until the HP is resolved, clients tend not to get more work for buffering.

The control values could be hacked or partly reset, but that I don't teach. It's an extreme lazy evening.

Re: every task running high priority

Ok, I'll let it run, but there are few things to be noticed:

1) My computer normally runs about 12 - 14 hours a day and the problem is already about 5 days....

2) I never touched the system clock, so I can't quite understand what should be rectified.

3) what is "rDCF" ?

Witold

Part time crunching tends to extend the recovery period.

2) I never touched the system clock, so I can't quite understand what should be rectified. Could be your computer did that for you, but then you are running with a client that was never properly developed, just explicitly released for GPU/CUDA crunchers. 6.4.5 uses the 6.2. BOINC manager, so consider to go back to the official WCG 6.2.28 version.

3) what is "rDCF" ? See the Acronyms FAQ http://worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=11187 and follow the link.

Witold
