Removing BOINC Manager without cancelling units.

I have 3 old machines that run this software 24/7, but have sold one of them and need to remove the software, how can i allow it to complete existing work, but stop downloading more?

For the moment i have suspended network activity to the machine. Please help, i don't want to abort the work units.

In the next 3 months, i will buy a new machine to replace them all in an effort to cut my power usage.

If anyone has solar panels they don't want, i would love to make my contribution to this site 100% green. Just throwing it out there.

In the advanced view, Projects tab, select World Community Grid and hit the "No new tasks" button.

Job done.

Job Well Done!

I dumped 4 socket 7 machines for a q6600. Dropped my power almost in half and boosted throughput 350%. Enough to pay off the upgrade in less than a year of 24/7 crunching.

Also, don’t skimp on the power supply. Cheapies can cost you a bundle in power over time. Switchers can be more and less efficient depending on burden. If you run 24/7, it can be worth it to look at the spec's on the power supply you have and see just where you come in.

The same goes for the CPU fan. Good heat sinking is worth its weight in gold, as it runs on the power already de-rated by the power supply's inefficiencies. So looking into the quality of any inductors such as the fan motors as well as the reduced need for heat dissipation with larger sinks, pays.

So Job Well Done! Even if in advance. wink

Re: Removing BOINC Manager without cancelling units.

Many Thanks Didactylos, Worked like a charm.

I am currently running the same processor

Q6600
EP45-DS3P Gigabyte Motherboard
DA850 Silverstone 850W Industrial PSU
ATi 2600XT
32" LG Monitor
1x 250GB Seagate (Boot)
11x WD10EACS 1TB Greenpower (RAID)
Highpoint RR2340
6GB DDR2 800 RAM
Windows XP 64

Im looking at getting the same thing but without all the drives.

I currently run 1.1Kw of power when my office is in Secure mode.
Goes to 1.3Kw when in Access mode, then up to about 3Kw when i run the air conditioner.

The power supply listed above is my default supply, the one above has a 70A 12V+ Rail so i don't have to worry about loading different rails.

The worst power supply i have come across (IT for 3 years) was Antec.
Cheapies are actually a close second, if you use Antec, you increase the chances of the power supply taking out your motherboard when it dies.

I am thinking atm that if i was to build a bunker underground then i could keep the machines down there and only require cooling for the heat i generate to lower cooling costs.
