And are there more appropriate programs for netbooks outside WCG ? Maybe SETI ?

I'm running "ibercivis", too. Work units are much smaller than WCG. It runs on same BOINC program.

Re: Problem with Atom N270/XP SP3 Notebook

Hello Alkazar,

I got the same problems with restarting WUs on my ASUS EeePC 901 (also Atom N270) on Windows XP SP3 (V6.2.28 with default installation options) as well as on Eeebuntu (V6.2.15).

After a new installation on Windows (disabled 'install as a service' and enabled 'allow all users...' this time) and running under an Administrator account it works like a charm.

Haven't had the time to investigate any further...

Re: Problem with Atom N270/XP SP3 Notebook

some people say that its better to turn off hyperthreading in atom cpus if you use it for distributed computing projects. of course, you can only process one task at a time but you will be able to finish one in less time. in NRW, faster cpu get more credit than slower ones even if you finsih both at the same time.

Re: Problem with Atom N270/XP SP3 Notebook

Running 6.4.5 on Eeebuntu now and it seems to run well (2 WUs now at 30% and 26%), regardless of hyperthreading is enabled. The Atom hasn't finished enough WUs yet to tell if it's running faster without hyperthreading, though.

Re: Problem with Atom N270/XP SP3 Notebook

Just for fun, I tried for one day the BOINC agent on my MSI Wind netbook (Atom N270, XP SP3, HT enabled) with Rossetta@Home and it went OK, but I think that this kind of computers should not be used for DC projects.

Even considering that the Atom is very energy efficient and should run way cooler than any other CPU, the ventilation system of those netbooks can't be that good to support 24x7 operation at 100% CPU utilization.

My suggestion is to avoid using netbooks based on Intel Atom for CPU intensive applications such as BOINC, but of course is up to you to decide.
