Is the conclusion on the intel atom N270: A -It's not recomended to use on WCG B -It's only recomended to use on the Rice project C -Just use it as you wants Is this questions or answers ? If Intel Atom is not powerful enough for WCG, is it good enough for another Boinc supported project such as SETI@home or Protein@home ? Or are all Boinc projects such power demanding ? Another question: if i cannot complet a task, is all the work lost ? For FAAH ? For NRW ? For all ??? Thanx ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Alkazar at Jan 26, 2009 5:39:38 PM] |

And the hope was that the rice project was a good deal for teh intel atom notebook The answer depend a lot on this other question: is all the work lost if the task isn't completed before the deadline ? |

Hello Alkazar,
The result might be used even if it comes back after the deadline. But the work unit was probably resent after the deadline was reached so try to complete work units before the deadline. NRW is good this way since it runs for a predetermined number of hours and then sends back all the different folds completed in that time, however many or few they are. Lawrence |

The rice project has standard 6 hours runtime, so if you are using boinc default setting with 60% cpu, one WU of rice will take ca 10 hours to complete.
----------------------------------------The next question is: Are that amount of time with that cpu of any interest too the project, or is it just for the fun of owners of small notebooks? |

Hello kskjold,
I am not certain what you mean. CPU time is only important to members. The results are what interest the project scientists, however long or short the time spent computing them. Lawrence |

Okye, let me rephrase: will the result be of interest for the scintists, or is it just cpu time for the members?

Hi kskjold,
I think that you are still talking about deadlines. Returning work after a deadline is an uncertain situation. If you have not started work yet, abort a work unit past the deadline. If you are well into the work, let it run if the Results Status page shows that the quorum has not been completed. NRW and some other projects run without any duplication, using random numbers to change some variables. So for those projects you will be returning unique results that the project scientists will use for a statistical sample. Lawrence |

And are there more appropriate programs for netbooks outside WCG ? Maybe SETI ?
