Just a quick note--possibly heavily duplicated--prompted by the email I got about having registered but having returned no units so far.
The simple answer is that your software doesn't support the current Debian Linux 'stable' release, so I have to wait until the next release of Debian before I can run the software. Of course I understand that sometimes these things are unavoidable, but given the relatively conscientious user base running Debian, and the generally fairly powerful computers we run, I would propose that despite our small numbers, we are a worthwhile user base to consider supporting. adeu, Mateu |

It is already supported. This question is asked now and then - all you need to do is use an older version of BOINC.
Get BOINC 5.8.16 from here: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download_all.php |

BOINC could also be installed using the apt-get command or from the normal graphical debian package handling tool.
----------------------------------------sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install boinc-client boinc-manager The manager package is only necessary if you want the graphical boinc manager on your debian computer. As I run debian as a server without X, I only installed the boinc-client package and remote administer from my windows desktop PC. The drawback of using the packages is that the latest BOINC version in debian stable is 5.4.11-4. ![]() |

Boinc is indeed being supported in Etch and I guess also in Lenny (not installed yet).
If you don't use X on your linux box (like a server) the default boinc-client disallowes access from a remote boinc-manager. If you add the parameter "-allow_remote_gui_rpc" to the start-up parameters (f.i. in /etc/init.d/boinc-client), you can configure the boinc-client remotely. Harreld. |
