Re: % CPU

I have just tried 10 % myself (via Advanced->Local preferences), and I can tell you that
- Boinc respects it immediately
- the graph does not look like yours at all.

I have linux ... in Advanced->Local preferences I don't see anything !
I've set here >

I think it is time now for you to look for what else is running in your machine.
Make sure that the list is sorted on % CPU and that all processes are displayed
Also make sure in the bottom right corner of BoincMgr that it is connected to localhost, and by the way tell us the version number that is shown there.

If I stop Boinc , % CPU is about 00 % , it's enough ? Is it a valid test ?!
Anyway , no problem , I can stop Boinc.
Regards.

Re: % CPU

Could it be a conflict between the local preferences and website device profile settings? To confirm, hit the "clear" button on the local preferences.

The CPU activity profile suggests something changed toward the latter part, but it is still seemingly running in a 3 seconds on, 2 seconds off, speak 60% default of the Standard profile ?

I have Linux too, but in French, and I should have written "Advanced->Preferences", sorry.
Once you see the Preferences screen you can either
- click on the "Clear" button in the top-right corner to drop all local preferences as lavaflow has suggested
- or select the "Processor usage" tab and enter your desired percentage in the box "Use at most xxx % CPU time".

As lavaflow said it was probably set at 60 % or something close.

If I stop Boinc , % CPU is about 00 % , it's enough ? Is it a valid test ?!

Yes and no. Yes if you are not displaying graphics.
If you are displaying graphics while you run Boinc you will stop them at the same time, and the graphics of some applications are using much CPU cycles.

Anyway , no problem , I can stop Boinc.

I would prefer you don't! smile Especially now that I think we are close to the solution.

As you suspected, no. This link shows me mine.

Thank you for your patience. Jean.

I use Ksnapshot ! is not a tool for boinc , it is a system graphics ...it works both with boinc and without it . So it shows what system does the real cpu consuming...

Re: % CPU

Your Italian interface looks like missing the CPU % option down below. Can you expand the screen. Something like Usa al massimo % della CPU, when i restart BOINC using that language.

Re: % CPU

Ah, yes, I remember now. When I was running Ubuntu in 1024x768 screen resolution I could not see the whole contents of those windows. Sorry for having forgotten now that I have switched to 1280x1024. sad
If you do not need any other particular settings of Boinc's local Preferences, better hit the "Pulisci" button to clear them all and you should probably be OK.

Cheers. Jean.

PS: in my previous post, when I mentioned graphics I was thinking of the graphics display of the science applications that are run by Boinc, not of other graphical applications like the system monitor. Sorry for the confusion. smile
