I upgraded from version 6.2.19 to version 6.4.5 and it seems to be working out great. With the 6.2.19 version I would get "file" errors from time to time. I would complete several jobs and then check my "Results Status" and it would show a "file" error (usually I would get one or two "file" errors per day) BUT I have not received any errors, as of yet, running version 6.4.5 and that's great news.
My Computer may be a little different than most because I am running Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit Edition operating system (NOT Vista 32 bit Edition operating system) with a Core2 Quad CPU - Q6600 (running 4 jobs at a time). My Computer runs 24/7 but I will need more time to really evaluate this fully because I downloaded 6.4.5 on 12/30/2008 and I know that's not much time to evaluate "anything" but I did complete several jobs and, again, so far, no "file" errors. It's also working very fast. If I encounter any problems, I'll let you all know about "what" problems I encounter but I don't foresee any problems at present. Wishing you all a great and healthy New Year and I thank you all for all the help you have given me in the past. Bob F. |

Well, I have no errors at all. This revision appears to be working fine. I'm running a "64 bit Vista operating system" on one computer and I also have this revision on an older "Windows XP 32 bit operating system" computer and again, no errors at all and it's running fine on both computers.
I did complete several jobs. Well, you all have a good night. Bob_F |

On the same topic of 6.4.5
I am connected to "another project" through BOINC that currently uses version 6.4.5 on WindowsXP 32bit Today I joined WCG FAAH and notice you're running BOINC ver 6.2.x I've downloaded a batch of workunits and am processing them. Hope they will be validated as ok, even though my version is different. (the previous comment was regarding x64 bit) ![]() |

Hope they will be validated as ok, even though my version is different. No such problem: if 6.4.5 works well in your machine it will return results and nothing else matters Cheers. Jean. |

Hello Bob_F,
We have a number of threads in HPF2 Forum about errors crunching HPF2 on quads running Vista 64. Look them over. Are you running HPF2 on BOINC 6.4.5? Lawrence |

I upgraded as well and I do Seti@home and Cancer Research and I can reset the projects and get a bunch of each downloaded and they will run and upload fine, but it won't get any new units. I have to reset when I get down to the end of the units. I have it set to get new units, but even tried cycling that button about get/don't get. Right now the button says don't get (meaning if I press it, it won't get units, correct?). Any ideas. I was getting it on Vista 32bit and even on Win 7 64bit.

If you have work-fetch problems, you should absolutely try using BOINC 6.2.28 instead.
While not guaranteed to solve the problem, it will at least rule out the known work-fetch problems in BOINC 6.4 and 6.6. |

I ran 6.4.5 for some time and recently had some big problems. It was mainly due to some system clock issue that caused every single task to run in high priority thus preventing me from getting extra jobs in case I'm not connected. Also the statistics were messed up in the 6.4.5 boinc manager.
I went back to the 6.2.28 and everything returned to normal running. Regards, Witold |
