What BOINC version is now recommended for participating in World Community Grid?
I used to see 5.10.45 recommended, even as new versions became available. But now, I see some signs that 6.2.28 or 6.4.5 may have become the recommended version. I'm running it under 32-bit Vista SP1, in case that affects the answer. If it's a version newer than 5.10.45, do I have to uninstall the old version before installing a new version, or is that handled automatically? |

6.2.28 is the recommended version.
6.4.5 is not recommended. In fact, I encourage members not to use it. Upgrading all happens automatically. I advise the "Install as a service and run under a restricted account" option. There is a walkthrough here: http://wcg.wikia.com/wiki/Installation_(Vista) There is no urgent need to upgrade. 5.10.45 is still supported. 6.2.28 may handle Vista better. |

It has no new features needed by World Community Grid, and hasn't undergone full testing by World Community Grid.
There are early reports of problems with it. BOINC 6.4.5 won't be a WCG recommended version, and there is a high probability that WCG won't recommend any of the 6.4.x versions. |
