I was wondering why I didn't get any Linux Beta WUs, and when I checked my device profile, Beta isn't listed as an available project anymore.
----------------------------------------I don't have 'all projects' checked as the Rice project was causing problems on some of my machines. Thanks edit: never mind. I just found the beta testing page ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by jal2 at Dec 20, 2008 8:41:38 PM] |

The Beta Testing option is not in the Device Manager section, but is found by clicking "Beta Testing", last in the list of buttons that don't look like buttons on our My Grid pages. Yes, confusing.
To increase your chances of getting beta test units, keep your work queue short, eg under 0.5 days. I think that most betas go to "fast returners" which are devices that return work in under 21 hrs (?). Queue length can be set either at wcgrid.org, or in your local preferences, which override the Web ones. For local prefs, switch BOINC to Advanced View, then Advanced >> Preferences >> Network Usage >> Additional work buffer. The disadvantage of short queues is that if the network connection or the WCG servers go down for an extended period, your computer may sit idle. HTH. |
