Hi WCG Adm and Tech teams,
----------------------------------------new year coming soon new model to WCG keep crunchers attention will be need, once the universe of grid computing around the world was changed and evoluted with a lot of useful new features in many projects away from WCG and BOINC... In this way, and without attack or consider wrong the old model in place in WCG to collect feedbacks to new features or functionalities, I would like to suggest to WCG ADM and Tech teams, think about a new model to do it. For example, to implement a kind of structured feedbacks votation to choose the new features that matters for crunchers, and obviously based on subjects that matters and make sense for WCG team. For example again, this new feedback process could be a simple table whit some selected feedbacks subjects or needs in WCG, where all crunchers could check box and vote which subjects are more important for each one. Why ? Because WCG will have more returns and will capture more attention and in this way more time dedication from crunchers if some kind of functionalities choose based on a democratic votation (most voted implemented first, and so on) among all WCG crunchers. It is only an initial idea to elaborate better the process of upgrade the mdoel used today by WCG to pick up feedbacks and put then in place during new releases and upgrades. It is my personal opinion that the process could be better if all crunchers vote in what kind of new features or facilities would be implemented first to increase project participation. Keep in mind and remember that many crunchers dedicates a lot of time to WCG and for others grid projects too. So, they have a huge experience to share with all and bring to WCG great new ideas about innovation to our community evolve in the best way to continue make the difference. Innovation that matters, like IBM always talk... Thank you in advance for your attention here. ![]()

Interesting ideas, but the WCG is about crunching results. While the volunteers need to be respected and helped, this is not a collaborative environment. We volunteer our computers and we take what we get. We do not need/get to direct how WCG works nor do we get to decide on what internal projects the Techs are supposed to be working on. The scientists and the Techs are running this show and the CAs help glue it all together. Everyone is doing the best they can but no one needs to solicit my vote on what to do next. I am just a worker bee crunching away.

I agree with you astrolab, and it is valid as much for the scientists.
----------------------------------------So why are you just doing the opposite in the DDDT thread ("seems inactive to me" ) that I just read before this one? When they are ready we will see new DDDT WUs come. Any time spent on communications for crunchers who believe they have to manage them is just delaying that time. Cheers. Jean. |

Please do not cut an ideia to innovate WCG enviroment without think more deep about the benefits that it could bring to us ... The main killers of innovation are oppositors to new ideas... go ahead with yours position but keep yours mind open to news... So I expect that WCG Adm and Tech teams think diferent from you once there are a lot of contributions to increase WCG results that crunchers could provide beyond just donate crunch time...

I see your point. On one hand I have said that crunchers do not drive WCG, and on the other I have been firm about requesting a regular status update, so I was trying to tell you what to do. Okay. I'll be quiet about DDDT now. WCG has decided to treat the release of information on the restart of DDDT in the same way as it treats the start of new projects like CEP. Since I agree with the second, I have to also accept the first. Done.

The members who participate most in the forums aren't a representative sample of the entire membership.
That's why a simple democracy can't work here. astrolab, WCG haven't made any secret decision about DDDT information. They simply don't have an exact date yet. Obviously, early estimates weren't accurate. That is due to the lab itself being in good shape after the storm - it was the infrastructure and accommodation that was hit hardest. |

Since I agree with the second, I have to also accept the first. Done. Regarding DDDT information and new project information: New projects are kept quiet until they are launched because they are always accompanied by press releases a few days after the technical launch. The press likes new info, not old info. So if we spoke about new projects in advance, it would be old info and thus the press would likely not pick up on it. As it is, the current method seems to work well. We did the technical launch for The Clean Energy Project last week Friday, and the press release went out today and is being picked up by quite a few media outlets, including Reuters http://www.reuters.com/article/rbssITServicesConsulting/idUSN0546995320081208 and this blog: http://www.treehugger.com/files/2008/12/your-...he-world-while-idling.php Regarding DDDT and new information: We don't have any current updates except that the research team at UTMB is still working on getting their technical environment to work in post-hurricane Ike conditions. Although it's been 3 month's since the hurricane hit Galveston, the research team had their personal lives severely disrupted by hurricane damage. So first they took care of their personal lives and now they are trying to get the technical environment up and running. Feel free to keep asking for updates from the researchers in the DDDT forum. |

Dear, Giba, Thanks for the input and we'll give your suggestion some serious consideration.
We've got several things on our development list for 2009 including several mandatory items. The biggy is to make results information (papers, databases, conferences, lab-work, etc.) about the results of each project easily available on the website. If I was a volunteer, I would want to know what is happening with the results that I contributed to research projects. We also need to update certain software packages. Our primary goal is always to run more research. So we've got some nice surprises for you in the first six months of 2009. Of course we can't tell you about them yet. ![]() |
