What are the system requirements? Needs not much for running (around 40- MB of RAM for the job itself), but more on the upload way: results were around 10 MB for the long betas. If proportional (I don't know yet) production uploads could be around 5 MB. And if that matters for you checkpoints frequency is somewhere between Rice and HCC. Cheers. Jean. |

Today, I registered an account on WCG for the first time. I have watched the WCG website for a long time but did not find any projects there that interests me until now.
I was aware of The Clean Energy Project website and kept my eye on it for any new developments. So, to my surprise, this new project went online on WCG. That got my attention and eagerly signed up! I was expecting this project to have its own URL just like the others. I did not expect it to appear on WCG. This is the only project I am crunching and will do so as long as it is up. I will not sign up for any of the current projects but am open to new projects in the future when they become available. I look forward to being involved with this new project for a long time to come as well as being involved with this community forums. |

@ Alpha and Omega,
If you want to contribute to only the Clean Energy project that is great, but I would suspect that a lot of users out there are going to modify their profiles to do only the Clean Energy to get that coveted badge. That means there might be periods when the techs can't load enough of these workunits to keep up with demand. If that is the case, your computer(s) might be sitting idle with no work to do . You can check that little box in the profile that says "If there is no work available for my computer for the projects I have selected above, please send me work from another project." That way your computer will not sit in idle status and will always be busy. IMHO all projects here deserve crunching time, but I have discovered that some machines dont play well with certain projects. So some of my machines only crunch HPF2, while others don't do Rice, etc... It's good to have you aboard. Any contributions are appreciated. Tell your friends! |

This is not a problem! I am also crunching other BOINC projects that are not part of WCG.
By the way, while earning a badge is nice but I am crunching for this because I believe in the project's goals. So I will go ahead and earn that coveted badge! The background material about this project indicates that this is the beginning of the first phase. How long will this first phase last? It looks like there will be at least three or more phases when this project is completed. Is that correct? |

Dear World Community Grid users: We want to thank you all for contributing your computer's idle power to the Clean Energy Project! Our team here in the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at Harvard University is very excited about having the opportunity to closely work with you in finding new materials for alternative energy applications. We are jointly searching thousands of possible compounds as candidates for producing solar cells made of organic materials. Most of the solar cells are made of highly structured semiconductor substrates. In contrast, our approach seeks to understand how photosynthetic organisms such as plants harvest sunlight using not-so-structured organic molecules. We plan to use the natural design principles of these organisms to create solar cells that behave similarly. Early stages of the project will help us understand many fundamental aspects of how to improve the performance of these organic-based materials. With your help, we will study how organic molecules stack to form thin films that can be used to develop flexible, lightweight solar cells, and possibly solar paint! Isn't that amazing? In later stages, we will study the electronic properties of these molecular compounds to better understand how the energy flows in these materials. One of our goals is to collaborate with experimental research groups that will synthesize the most promising chemical compounds; compounds that would be identified by using your donated computer time. In this respect, your contribution is very important because you are helping us to dramatically accelerate the process of understanding the fundamental science behind these novel solar cells made of organic materials. Remember: the deployment of this technology has the potential to systematically lead the development of the next generation of solar cells. We will keep you posted as the project advances on our findings in this forum. You can also visit our website for more information: http://cleanenergy.harvard.edu. Thank you again for donating your computer time for this project. The Clean Energy Project team. I would like to congratulate the scientists team to take the decision to participate with this important subject using resources of grid computing through our community. Will be a honnor be part of WCG crunchers that will colaborate with The clean energy project frtom today on. Welcome to WCG team ! Best Regards !
Cheers ! GIB@

This could be at some point run parallel with phase 2 for a while... mid 2009 year i think is when phase 2 is planned and like anything that is a plan. OT... DDDT was also meant to run that way for a while.

Ever we appreciate a lot new crunchers and colaborators in WCG projects, despite of personal preferences to crunch one or many projects (many will be betther ! ). Please consider be part of one team which meet your personal preferences, or if you prefer, create a team and invite all of yours friends to be part and for instance focus oon Clean Energy Project. By my side, I would like to invite you to be part of our great team family at BRAZIL@GRID team... If you have interest in crunch with us, please click on the link below and join us to help us with our effort as team. Be my guest and for us will be a great honnor receive you here ! Best Regards.
