Hello, I'm having a problem with BOINC 6.2.19. When I close BOINC to play a game or give my computer a rest, the icon in the toolbar goes away, but the processes continue to crunch. I have to manually go into taskman and shut them down, along with BOINC that apparently is still running.
I've already uninstalled the program and ran Ccleaner to get rid of any data left behind. Is there anything I can do so I don't have to manually shut it off using task manager? Thanks. |

This is by design.
When you installed BOINC, you selected the "protected" option. This means BOINC runs whether BOINC Manager is running or not. Choose "Suspend computation" to control whether BOINC runs. Also, since you obviously like total control over your computer, you can go to Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services and start/stop the BOINC service from there. But I don't recommend doing that normally. Suspending is easier. |

So should I uninstall BOINC, then re-install? Or is there an option I can change?

RAID Xero,
----------------------------------------Client 6.4 will have lets call it the "Games Setting". You only need to add a line to the cc_config.xml and enter the exe name and BOINC will suspend until you exit the game. Till then, Through BOINC manager go to the local preferences, processor tab and untick the "while in use..." box. Not sure if it responds to joystick activity, but it does to mouse/keyboard operation. There is also the activity menu where you can tell to suspend operation. If the "Leave application in memory while suspended" option is not on, the science applications should unload too. These settings should stop stop crunching while you are gaming and does not need to exit the client or service. ttyl

Thanks for the tip, Sekerob.
I could have sworn that the older BOINC versions, all you had to do was right-click on the icon in the taskbar then click exit. That shut down everything. I just want it to be like the way it was before I upgraded. |

You are correct. You can reinstall BOINC in this way, but it is less secure. Your choice.

To add that choosing in the WCG package version 6.2.28 the installer offers a "protected install" option. On shutdown the BM will ask for the Service to be exited and a pop up box shows to tick and remember that choice. When you restart the BM, it will fire up the service again, if having the rights.
