I installed the client from the website recently, and when it installed I selected to have the screensaver, but it doesn't, and it's not under my screensaver list or anything, so i could use some help.

Maybe you deselected it by accident? Try reinstalling, and get back to us if it still isn't there.

Depending on which package used, the WCG custom version or Berkeley original the screen saver is listed as:
----------------------------------------World Community Grid or BOINC Rare occasions have been reported of the file not being copied to the right place by the installer. The file that should be in the Windows operating system directory is named boinc.scr for both installer packages.
WCG

Since upgrading to the latest version of Boinc 6.2.28 a few days ago, the new screensaver has caused my machine to lock up on three occasions, forcing me to have to reboot. Is this an isolated problem, or have other users suffered this?
----------------------------------------I've now changed the screensaver to something else, which is a shame as the graphics were really good, with a lovely pic of terraced paddy fields! ![]() |

I am also having problems with the sceensaver; but I have found the I can connect to my system via remote desktop and this unhangs the system. I am running Win XP pro. I am current on MS patches. The system does have a dual core CPU and 2 displays on it.
Is there a way to turn off the screen saver without affecting the background work? I would just as soon have a blank screen. |

You could install the client to run as a service and not the screensaver. That is how I have it on my server so when I'm not logged in it still runs anyway. No screensaver either.

Is there a way to turn off the screen saver without affecting the background work? I would just as soon have a blank screen. Simply select "none" to not switch to screensaver mode if you don't need to lock your screen, or "blank" to have nothing on the screen while you are in screensaver mode. In either case the work of the science application will no be affected, and no CPU cycle will be wasted in processing pictures. If you still have problems don't forget to tell us more about your environment (system, Boinc version, etc...). Cheers. Jean. |
