Hi guys. I was wondering: when I choose WCG as a screen saver, the "crunching" becomes slower? A part of the CPU power is used to generate the image? Or this is just my imagination? I have a Intel C2D E4500 and a video card NVIDEA 8800 GS (that I use to contribute with Folding@Home), enabling the screen saver will "eat" some of my power?

The screensaver uses a very small (but non-zero) amount of your CPU.
Use it or not, as you prefer. |

----------------------------------------The WCG BOINC version currently beta tested 6.2.27, combined with new graphic frame refresh options on the Website Device profile allows to limit the amount of CPU time used. The default here is set to 5% use. The more rendered, the more CPU time. cheers

Hi Filipe,
----------------------------------------if you prefer use your CPU time to crunch WU's, I suggest to you do not select WCG as screensaver (and in this way, maybe do not select neither one too...). As you know, screensavers usage are question of security for most of users, and normally are used to prevent acess to third parts in computers installed in open enviroments. Hard hackers broken very quickly any screensaver password (in few seconds, bad news ! ), but the most of users have hard difficult to do it (good news !). If you have a graphic card installed in your machine, probably it will assume part of processing of the screensaver choose, and in this way you will use less CPU time to do it. Best Regards. ----------------------------------------From W2K the screensaver password is equal the System's. I'd hope that to be a bit more robust than just needing a few seconds of hacking to be revealed. ciao
