I'm running (sort of... :p) boinc on a debian Etch system running on a Geode processor. It's using version 6.2.15 of boinc from the "Older Linux x86 and x64" section of the boinc site. When I enable it, it downloads a Rice work unit, works for a few minutes and then errors out as below; does anybody know why?

Hello 6c1452.mine.nu,
I don't remember seeing that before. I don't know what is wrong. Have you tried other WCG projects or even a non-WCG project? Lawrence |

Actually, this "SIGILL: illegal instruction" has been reported twice before in a Linux/FreeBSD related thread. Took a guy a long time to fix his installation, but it was not exactly standard.

Ironically, it looks as though that person solved it by switching to the rice project....
Tried a rosetta WU. It buggers up every minute or so and restarts the WU: 15-Nov-2008 05:53:57 [rosetta@home] Starting task h001b_BOINC_ABRELAX_RANGE_yebf_IGNORE_THE_REST-S25-6-S3-7--h001b-_4769_897_0 using minirosetta version 140 15-Nov-2008 05:56:16 [rosetta@home] Task h001b_BOINC_ABRELAX_RANGE_yebf_IGNORE_THE_REST-S25-6-S3-7--h001b-_4769_897_0 exited with zero status but no 'finished' file 15-Nov-2008 05:56:17 [rosetta@home] If this happens repeatedly you may need to reset the project. 15-Nov-2008 05:56:53 [rosetta@home] Restarting task h001b_BOINC_ABRELAX_RANGE_yebf_IGNORE_THE_REST-S25-6-S3-7--h001b-_4769_897_0 using minirosetta version 140 ...then I added some swap, and instead of restarting it died with a 'computation error' according to the message tab of boincmgr. |

First guess is often the best and seeing the "exited with zero status..." now it could be very much a permission thing. Check the rights. Typically RICE will try to create an output file after the first few seeds have been calculated through. If it cant, it bombs. Never know ;>)

No cigar I'm afraid - everything is owned by the user running it. Retrying rice with the swap on still failed with a computation error.

Thanks, but keep the cigar... I prefer them from my own box ;>)
----------------------------------------The new 10 hour Rice jobs run through fine here. Given their memory footprint of 25mb, minimal compared to Rosetta, I doubt it's the job of WCG or theirs. But, what's a "Geode" processor? Search and found a term: http://www.geode.stir.ac.uk/

Found some interesting stuff leading from that link. One of those things is eDiaMoND . Probably old news to some here (says 2002 on that page). But I found it very interesting and it looks like a great thing.
