Hello Everybody,
The network at my office was secured a few days ago. As a result all Internet traffic is now going through a proxy, the details of which are not available to us. As a result my agent can no longer contact the server directly as it used to in the past. I was wondering if there's some other way of submitting and updating new and completed work units. For example, uploading files by hand through the web browser or copying the files and taking the to some other location and updating them to the server using a different connection. All ideas and suggestions are appreciated. I don't want this to be the end of the road for my Work computer to participate in the WCG. Regards, KN. |

BOINC can be configured to use a proxy.
I need to remind you that the Software License Agreement only allows you to use the software on your own computers, or computers where you have permission (explicit or implicit) from the owners. Ask your system administrator for the proxy details. If you need any further help, just ask. |

OR you can pitch the idea to your boss, who can pitch the idea to his boss, etc. to run WCG on ALL the computers at your work

Same here. Complicated firewall with only port 80 access. No proxy given. Any ideas?

Maybe I need some education to understand why companies would lock the secure transacting port 443 (https). That's the one WCG requires to be open outbound on the client side. It's the one port where it's many corporate partners communicate with to WCG. Without that they probably would not.

Ours doesn't lock it down, but you have to actually run some executable that does something to our IE. We have a long URL that we put in that 'does something' to firefox. There is no 'proxy' or 'socks' per se. It apparently goes to some 'script' through a URL. Very convoluted. Can we do the work and send the results in batch through a web page in IE or email them?
Anyone? Thanks, Mike |

Anyone? Thanks, Mike Actually, the act of typing this out gave me an idea. I went and downloaded the URL referenced script that the executable puts in there and noticed it had the proxy in it! I grabbed it out of the script, popped it in to my world grid client connection properties (proxy) and now it works (port 80). Thanks, Mike |

Which client version are you using? The new 6.2.28 Final (See Member News announcements) has better automated proxy handling.
