Something isn't right ... I need help, please.

I've been pretty busy the past several days, so I haven't been monitoring my crunching. But when I just visited 'My Statistics', I discovered that I haven't earned any points since November 4th or 5th, so something is wrong. I clicked on the BOINC icon in my tray, and it states: "Error ... No work available to process." That can't possibly be correct. Any ideas? I haven't made any changes on my system in quite some time, so I don't know what might have caused it except possibly some sort of automatic update that I get from various sources, including MicroSoft. How do I get things started up again?

EDIT: I just re-booted my computer and I get the same message. All my other programs work just fine. Here are the messages I have on BOINC manager:

I'm running WindowsXP if that helps. Never had a problem with it before.

What happens when you click on "Update" in the Projects tab?

Hi Bill,
Are you sure that you have all projects selected? DDDT does not have any work units (Hurricane Ike damaged Galveston).

Didactylos asked:

I can't find an "Update" button/command; where is it located? I've tried going to "My Grid" | "My Projects" and I don't see such a command -- and by the way, in answer to 'lawrencehardin', I have every project checked, including the "Participate in All Projects" box, which is actually redundant, but it has been set like that for at least months without causing problems. I also have the box checked for "If there is no work available for my computer for the projects I have selected above, please send me work from another project."

I have checked on the tray icon and don't see any any "Update" command.

Thanks for the efforts so far.

Hi Bill,

I think you are the prime candidate for a brush up on the workings of the Simple and Advance View functions of the BOINC Manager.

http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/The_BOINC_Manager

The Advanced View section shows where "Update" sits

cheers

Re: Something isn't right ... I need help, please.

Thanks, Sekerob. That fixed it and I'm crunching again. It never occurred to me to look at the 'advanced' view ... duhhhh. I just hate that I missed about ten days of crunching; what a shame. I don't know what could have caused it, but I'll be sure to start monitoring my own crunching more. Of course, I was out of town for part of that time.

Cheers.

As my little group of systems has grown, I have sometimes worried about 'monitoring' all my systems on a regular basis. A while ago I realized that we have members with 100s of computers and they may not be managing all of them. Of course they could use Boincview or BAM to see all of their systems, but only if they are on the same network, which they may not be.
I can only conclude that some large groups are rarely monitored yet work well generally. The largest member on my team is never here in the forums but his/her average output rarely changes. Crunch on.......
