Latest version of BOINC?

HI all,

I am running Windows version 5.10.45 of BOINC. I noticed that for 64 bit systems on the BOINC open source site there is a version 6.2.19. It says it works with WCG, should I upgrade to that? Does it support everything needed here, including the ability to keep running when no one is logged on?

Also, does it upgrade nicely or do I have to start over/lose data?

Thanks!

Re: Latest version of BOINC?

Hi,

Suggest you stick with 5.10.45 until the beta testing of 6.2.25/6.2.26 is complete which WCG is currently in progress of finishing.

There is no material benefit in having a 64 bit client unless attaching to other projects outside WCG that offer 64 bit sciences. WCG currently only compiles 32 bit science applications.

Conversion is smooth, all data and progress preserved.

The beta for 6.2.25 is available here: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dl/wcg_boinc_6.2.25_windows_intelx86.exe and has substantial improvements over 6.2.19 in the security and proxy automation department particularly. See latest feature update here:

They all do if you install them correctly.

Select "Run as unprivileged user".

Re: Latest version of BOINC?

I find I'm still running 5.10.45. Does the new version enable you to get past UAC in Vista? I'm always forgetting to start BOINC when I switch on!

Re: Latest version of BOINC?

Hi Scribe!
It seems that I have missed one chapter somewhere. Can you please remind me why not use the "now-WCG-official" 6.2.28?

Otherwise, for Paul100, yes the unprivileged (or protected) installation mode is the way to go to avoid any starting problem (including simply forgetting to start the client).

Cheers. Jean.
