$110 a cord ... what a deal. Oak is $285 (4x4x8) delivered here. But my winters are mild and the servers heat the back part of the house. That is very good as 4 face cords equal one bush cord ( 4x4x8). So that would make it $440.00 a cord up here plus taxes. Last year I paid $60.00 a face cord for maple. Going to be a busy day here as it is Canadian Thanksgiving. L |

I have a long-time friend in Calgary ... she complains about the price of wood every year. You'ld think being tucked up that close to the Rockies, wood would be cheap ... I guess it's the labor.Good Morning MOT. ![]() ![]() |

Dave Bell moved into the top 10 on total points of active members. Congratulations Dave
---------------------------------------- On the other subject, I worked my way to a relatively high level in a major corporation prior to retiring 11 years ago. I kept hearing the very senior management talking about us all being “family”. Then in the very private meetings, they behaved just as indicated above. Employees were thought of no differently than any other useful asset. That bald-faced hypocrisy was one of the major factors that convinced me to retire when I did; it just grinds on you and makes you sad when you know that it did not used to be that way and it still didn’t have to be that way. This was over a decade ago and so, it is not a completely modern phenomenon. Rather, I believe prevalent in corporations for at least a quarter century; perhaps longer. Finally, I would say that I have heard it said that the old dogs don't get around much so they just lie on the porch and bark at everything that goes by. Sometimes I think it is just me being old that causes this pessimism; for the next generations, I certainly hope so. I started this post on a positive note congratulating Dave and then digressed. Sorry about that. On a ligher note, did you know if you all send me $100, I could buy another quad to put to work on WCG? I'll wait by the mailbox. ![]() |

Most of the wood near the Rockies is softwood, pine, fir and balsam. Fast burner and no heat. |

Six are running WCG exclusively. The other two are spilt 50-50 between WCG and 14 of the other 15 projects MOT has a presence at. Great. I’ve 14 at WCG now, one each at POEM, Rosetta, Climate & QMC, 2 at PS3Grid and 8 at Milkyway. Team MOT looks good. EDIT: Cosmology has work again but the feeder is not running. Proteins is supposed to have new work in Dec. if you all send me $100, I could buy another quad to put to work on WCG? I'll wait by the mailbox. If you wait there ... wear warm clothes and comfortable shoes. Partially and the price of Disel, Gas and Lubricating Oil. Most of the wood near the Rockies is softwood, pine, fir and balsam. Fast burner and no heat. Yes, that’s why I am glad I always have Oak ... burns 4 hours. Only deadwood can be cut but there is lot’s of that. It is a renewable resource ... if you wait 200-300 years. There is a big wildfire burning near LA ... summer is not finished with us. Forecast for 79F/26C here today. ![]() ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Dataman at Oct 13, 2008 3:20:23 PM] |

Hey, anyone else here who runs QMC? I'm noticing 14 and 20 hour run times regularly now. Is this common? Is there a problem with the project?

Hey, anyone else here who runs QMC? I'm noticing 14 and 20 hour run times regularly now. Is this common? Is there a problem with the project? QMC runtimes are all over the place. I"ve had them as low as 45 minutes to 12 or more hours. 20 seems a bit high though. None of the ones I have now are over 10. EDIT: I looked at my completed work at their site and the last one I finished was 16 hours and a 14 before that. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Dataman at Oct 13, 2008 5:22:58 PM] |

I remember having a set of QMC units that ran for about 45 minutes on my quad. I'd fire off about a hundred of them a day! |
