Here is the complete messages page. I wonder why it only starts today. It resets when you reboot/restart Boinc |

The Messages in the BOINCmgr only show current session and only the last 2mb, by default. The FAQ link in Jean's post explains how/where to retrieve older log entries.

2/10/2008 20:29:55||General prefs: from World Community Grid (last modified 01-Jan-1970 01:00:01) Check out the date in that line. Somewhere you have a system date problem/discrepancy. That date should be a lot more current. Cheers

Sgt.Joe, I think this date is normal if nothing has been changed in the General preferences.
----------------------------------------Vep, in addition to a few lines around error messages from your log (current or past) it would be good to also have the contents of a few error logs for WUs from different projects. You can see these error logs by clicking on "Erreur" from your "Etat des résultats". By the way you can recognize projects from the name of WUs as follows. Names starting with - lz... are for HPF2 - X... are for HCC - R... are for Rice - faah... are for FAAH - dddt... are for DDDT. Sorry to ask you for more material but your last post is good and bad news altogether: the good news is that everything looks OK in the starting log you have provided, the bad news is that we will have to look for something more tricky. Cheers. Jean. |

Hello,
I got it: The error message says:"Too many normally harmless exits". The different PCs and laptops in my home are interconnected to a router with a wireless Linksys system. The laptopAcer has a Ruckus wireless connector to the router, and therefore has no problem. For the Internet, the desktop PC works without a Ruckus, and has apparently no problem keeping connected to the router, albeit with a low to faint signal. Perhaps, the signal is at times too low for Boinc ? The HPlaptop is in my office at 1ft from the router. On this one, I think, I'll erase Boinc and reinstate it a while later to integrate it into vep. Thank you all for the help. Paul |

hmmm, some people have reported problems with their client when the internet connection drops off. Try crunching with a cache/additional buffer of 1 day and a client network schedule of e.g. 30 minutes for example from 16:00-16:30. Set the client in the Activity menu to Run per Preference and Network per Preference. That will result in the client only trying to get internet connection during half an hour, sending the day's results back and fetching a new day of tasks.
----------------------------------------I think some of these problems are fixed in BOINC v 6.2. at least, not read of this particular event for a longer while since 6.2 is out (not yet recommended by WCG). BOINC uses the localhost / 127.0.0.1 IP only for local comms between the components. Installing as service running BOINC.exe only and not loading BOINCmgr cuts out some of the trouble and of course not using the BOINC screensaver as again that uses local comms (RPC) to talk to the core client (BOINC.exe)

It's going better. PC-de-user is finally completing results eventually.
The other problem, transferring PaulVer to vep, is going more complicated. PaulVer doesn't recognize its password anymore. After asking PaulVer's password, I received an email telling me the password for vep ! So, I cannot disconnect the one without disconnecting everything. Am I right ? I tried to delete PaulVer and connect this HPlaptop to vep by erasing BOINC and reinstating it after some 15 minutes under vep. To no avail, it keeps crunching under PaulVer, and does not appear among the active devices for vep. What now ? |

Hi vep,
Sounds like it is time to raze your laptop. Tell it to stop accepting new work. After you have cleared out your cache, uninstall BOINC. Then delete your BOINC directory. THEN install BOINC 5.10.45 as vep. That should work! Lawrence |

To help your laptop to forget PaulVer I would even detach from WCG before uninstalling: from the tab "Projets" select WCG then click on "Se détacher".
----------------------------------------And before re-installing make sure your web browser is logged on to WCG as vep. Good luck. Jean. ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by JmBoullier at Oct 4, 2008 8:51:25 PM] |

Hello,
It did work eventually. After abandoning all work, I tried to detach from work in the Projects. After returning there later, all projects were active again !? Nevertheless, I erased BOINC-wcg from the programs, via the configuration panel. After that, I did a search for BOINC with the search item. 13 bits and pieces of BOINC's appeared. I deleted all of it, even if, for some pieces, my PC told me it couldn't be deleted. A while later, they disappeared anyway. Finally, I reinstated BONIC-wcg. After a while the new device, called VEP appeared in vep's devices list. Thanks for the help. Paul |
