confused Absent device ?

Hello,
With my recent HPpavilionzd8000, I left the name PaulVer that I took by error some months ago. Yesterday, I erased BOINC from my HP-laptop, and reinstated it with the name I have since 2004, vep.
Checking my situation today, I don't find my HP-laptop among my active devices.

What happens ?

Re: Absent device ?

So you registered the device to "vep" and have returned a result with that client? You should at least see a new device in the Device Manager, but not in the My Stats until a result is returned and validated.

confused Re: Absent device ?

I didn't see a new device in the device manager either, nevertheless this laptop is crunching (4 projects at a time).
Furthermore, the last 62 tries in my desktop PC ended in error.
What happens ?

Regards,
Paul

Hello vep,
Start off by posting from your Messages tab and describe your system. What do you see on your Results Status page?

Re: Absent device ?

In the last 2 days about 1800 BOINC credits were awarded, about 13000 WCG points, so i do not quite understand why with "last 62 tries on Desktop ended in error". This BOINCstats site shows 2 devices getting credit these last days, a quad doing 725 BOINC credits yesterday:

http://boincstats.com/stats/host_stats.php?pr=wcg&st=0&userid=10068

The WCG stats site shows

30-9-08 10:34:57 [9+ hour(s) ago]

which is the time since the last stats update.

OK, some results were reached, however, most of the activities end in error after some 3 minutes.

My BOINCstats show 2 devices, but in fact there are 3, since a few days.
There is PC-de-user, which is a new Desktop PC (HP-Pavilionm9380.be-a)
There is also my old laptopACER.
There is no appearance of my laptop, formerly crunching under PaulVer, which is a HP Pavilion zd8000

Can you check that ?

Re: Absent device ?

You're making us guess: Which project(s) are ending in error? RICE, HPF2, HCC, FAAH, DDDT? What OS? Can you post an actual result error log (from the RS web page) and also a piece of the client message log where the device aborts the task. My Vista quad mostly does not get past 2 minutes of the HPF2 6.03, which is why a new version is being tested. I've disabled that science application in the Device Profile web-page.

[Edit: First line of support, the CA's have no access to the member RS pages. We asked once or twice, but since we are no WCG employees, our "privileges", if one could call it that, are limited to posting in the Start Here and CA forum for direct Tech contact on queries we can't resolve in CA-Member Q&As. That's it]

Above is a sample of the errors. I don't recognize the projects which are in error. If my count is right, there are 13 errors there, all the 30th of september. There are many other that same day.
Now, PaulVer is still gaining points although I aborted it in order to bring it into vep.

Sorry for not understanding.

Re: Absent device ?

I don't recognize the projects which are in error

OK, that does not matter since you get errors on four of the five projects currently running in WCG (and you probably have not received work for the fifth one which is slightly constrained nowadays).

Obviously you have a "general" problem with your installation of Boinc. What we really need now is your messages log, particularly
- the first lines from the very start down to the first "Starting task xxxx" line
- and a few lines above and after the occurrence of one or more errors.

Please see thread BOINC: Message & Error Log Reporting for instructions on how to proceed.

Even if you plan to re-install Boinc (which is probably what will have to be done) PLEASE provide these message lines described above BEFORE re-installing, that might certainly help us to understand your problem.

Cheers. Jean.
