I really like the new badge system - yes the tech did a great job.
I have been reading the various comments about the new badge system and suggestions such as bigger time periods which would give those with multiple computer incentives to continue crunching but would be unfair for those with only one computer. What is really needed is different goals for different crunchers based on how many computers they have at any given time taking into account that crunchers may have upgraded from one computer to another at one time or another. For example: 1 or 2 computers: Bronze: 14 days Silver: 30 days Gold: 45 days 3 to 7 computers: Bronze: 45 days Silver: 90 days Gold: 180 days 8-15 computers: Bronze: 1 year Silver: 2 years Gold: 5 years 16-49 computers: Bronze: 5 years Silver: 10 years Gold: 25 years 50+ computers: Bronze: 25 years Silver: 50 years Gold: 100 years When the badge is posted - on the left side of each post, indicate the category that the user belongs. Feel free to adjust the table as you see fit. What does everyone think? |

World Community Grid have other plans to keep the supercrunchers happy. Wait and see.
The badge system really can't be extended in the way you suggest. With all the suggestions and comments I have seen, one thing is clear: they can't all be implemented. Some people are going to be disappointed. But that doesn't make the suggestions any less valuable. Thank you. |

Most people do not know how long it took to implement the current change so they want it now. Gotta be patient. Now matter when the techs get to the additions, it sounds like there will be badges for everyone to work toward, no matter where you are now. |

1 or 2 computers: Bronze: 14 days Silver: 30 days Gold: 45 days 3 to 7 computers: Bronze: 45 days Silver: 90 days Gold: 180 days 8-15 computers: Bronze: 1 year Silver: 2 years Gold: 5 years 16-49 computers: Bronze: 5 years Silver: 10 years Gold: 25 years 50+ computers: Bronze: 25 years Silver: 50 years Gold: 100 years Sounds good in theory, but they'd also need to provide the ability to accurately count your systems. Due to various harddrive wipes, computer upgrades, etc. I'm shown as having 14 or so computers, but I only actually have 4 and would probably never meet any badge levels that assume I have 14 devices. For this example and many similar ones, it would be good if we could accurately maintain and/or merge our system records, or at least have the grid stats "retire" (i.e. stop counting, not necesssarily delete) profiles or systems that haven't reported in 90 days (or some other appropriate length of time) I realise this may not be a high priority, but I think it inflates membership stats by not accurately reflecting active membership and devices Just my two cents, I will of course keep crunching, regardless..
O God, I could be bounded in a nutshell and count myself a king of infinite space, were it not that I have bad dreams. (Hamlet)"

SETI .... for every Martian found .... I'd give 'em a gold....nothing until then.

Hi,
I really like the badge system. Is there something similar planned for teams? Thanks Formengil |

If it were up to me, add a project contribution split to the team page so they could engage in a focused race of sorts. There are some more bits in the works for power crunchers, but not read of team project badges being planned, it's an idea though.

I check badge status every day and throughout the day. It has made me diversify my project focus. Any improvements to this reward system would be appreciated! Keep up the great work!

If it were up to me, add a project contribution split to the team page This would be a really great enhancement to the Team page. While I suggested the team badges, the system would deserve some well thought out parameters as you analyze the number of members, number of machines, badges (ie: points/time) earned by members, team points/time. Unlike member badges, team badges will be harder to decide the criteria. |
