Run 3 tasks at the same time?

Can I get BOINC to run 3 tasks at the same time?
It doesn't seem to want to run any more than two tasks at the same time here.

Re: Run 3 tasks at the same time?

Why do you want to do this?

Re: Run 3 tasks at the same time?

Seems, that you have a dual-core CPU in your computer. For each task you run, you need one CPU (or core). If you buy a quad-core CPU, you can run 4 tasks at a time, if you have a 2 CPU system, with 2 quad-core CPUs inside, you can run 8 tasks, and so on...

Cheers

Ah thank you, I'm connected to 3 projects.
And I want to run one task from each :)

Re: Run 3 tasks at the same time?

@totto73,

with a VM you could get 3 to run or with the venerable Hyperthreaded Dual you could too, but it does not exactly improve efficiency. More for the techno addicts ;>)

@Deepy,

If you select 3 WCG science projects you get work randomly from WCG based on availability i.e. what's in the feeders that moment. WCG over a longer period tries to balance things so that all the projects eventually get an even weight. Also since there are many 'project preference' crunchers, the mix that is left for the pool / all project / multi project crunchers is not squaring to begin with. For RICE on a mix project device I see maybe 1 in 10 or less as an indication.

Here a picture of how the joyride works out with 5 projects to manage:
