University Distributed Computing

I am interested in putting together a proposal to bring forward to my university (Adelphi University in New York) asking them to put the world community grid software on all campus computers. I was wondering if anyone has any information on where this has already been done so I can get an idea of where to start ; Even for projects that are different than WCG. Thanks so much for your help in this matter, as I can't stare at the screen anymore tonight :P

Re: University Distributed Computing

The whole thing with universities that are not currently involved is a real conundrum.

I live two doors from the Dean of the Honors College at my university (I graduated in 1967). I said, look at who participates. Look at the institutions. I showed her. I said, we would benefit as a research university by having some group present a project for WCG approval. She said I should email to her a presentation that she could then take to department heads.

I developed a presentation which included a great deal of material from all of the WCG projects, complete with the locations and links for the institutions. I did it in a way that she could break out modules for departments.

That was 6 months ago. So far, nothing.

This university actually had a crunching team which I joined prior to starting a team at my religious institution. Thus university has 70,000 students. The team had 55 members and an almost silent captain.

I just do not understand it.

mitrichr: Just be persistent, you know you are doing right thing for the right cause. Could you also post here the presentation you mentioned for others to use? I believe the key information is 1. benefits 2. security and no/low cost. Go forward and show us what you can achieve mitrichr!

Re: University Distributed Computing

I would be delighted to post my proposal. But, it is an eleven page Word document. I don't know how I would post it, Other than just copy and paste.

If that is suitable, or if there is some other method, please let me know.

Thanks.

I think I need to ask some senior forum mmbers for help - anybody can help us with this? Could you also send question to support@worldcommunitygrid.org. And finally, how about posting it on wikipedia page linked to world community grid?
