Hi everyone
----------------------------------------This is my third day running wcg and i love giving my free computer time for scientific research ! edit 2008-09-17 wed 00:30 cet : i added a few precisions, explorerxp.exe is not a shell, as in only a executable replacement for the default explorer.exe windows browser, and i had to make two installations. Hope it clarifies my message. Thanks in advance. Here is my problem: - my computer is denying me rights to access files from explorerxp.exe (not a shell, just an executable) or launching links from the wcg boinc client. - had to uninstall and install a second time. - boinc.exe never launched by itself until i placed a shortcut in the start up folder, unlike the first installation ------------- Details: The installation went well; however on the second day boincmgr.exe didn't launch boinc.exe and i add to click on it. Same on third day. Actually my computer could not connect to the localhost... http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=20859#170209 "BOINC Manager will start the BOINC core client, the background control of the sciences, if not already running." This is not my case: i had to uninstall, install a second time and manually add a shorcut to boinc.exe to the windows start up folder, which already cointains one to the boinc manager; still i remember not having to do this after first installing the client, not having two minimised windows on the sidebar, only one. And it worked automatically then. I also noticed that since the wcg boinc client installation my computer is not granting me access to my harddrive files when accessed from explorerxp.exe (a executable replacement for explorer.exe, not a shell) and i can't access my wcg stats when clicking on the link in the wcg boinc client: it says: "windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item" then after clicking ok, a second message this time in french (i am french): "navigateur internet introuvable wcg boinc client a essaye d'afficher la page web http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/stat/viewGlobal.do mais n'a pas trouve de navigateur internet. Pour resoudre ce probleme, indiquez le chemin de votre navigateur internet dans la variable d'environnement browser, puis redemarrez le wcg boinc client." -> it says it cannot find the browser, and asks me the path to it. I checked when under my admin account: same thing. Otherwise it works fine, i can upload my finished crunches and download new ones. Any ideas why i can't access my files anymore ? --------------- About my installation and computer: boinc 5.10.45 single user installation (on the second reinstallation) windows xp sp3 comodo personal firewall firewall 3.0.25.378 avira personal antivirus 8.1.0.331 [Edit 4 times, last edit by Former Member at Sep 16, 2008 10:37:49 PM] |

It appears that your shell replacement does not manage shell activation properly, preventing BOINC from launching your web browser.

By the way: explorerxp.exe is not a shell, just a replacement executable to navigate on my hard drives.
----------------------------------------explorer.exe works fine. How can i reconfigure my shell properly then please ? [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Sep 14, 2008 9:56:43 PM] |

Hello togusa,
Getting messages in French is troubling, unless you have spcified French somewhere in Windows. I am most bothered by the denial of access permissions, which is normally a feature of Vista, not Windows XP. Perhaps security software blocked a proper install. What security programs are you running? Lawrence |

----------------------------------------I am only running both these security programs: comodo personal firewall firewall 3.0.25.378 avira personal antivirus 8.1.0.331 By the way i AM french :D note: i would answer quicker if there was some kind of email notification for thread reply, it could be useful [Edit 2 times, last edit by Former Member at Sep 16, 2008 10:37:09 PM] |

it was right under my nose :o
Ahem thanks So i already had added boinc and boincmgr as trusted applications, AND added each project in a comodo defense + section called my own safe files. But that is not my problem: since i installed boinc i cannot access and modify from another program (explorerxp.exe) the files on my computer. Have to go through the standart explorer.exe. Before i did i could access my files... Still don't understand why i can't anymore. |

Sorry, we can't help you with explorerxp. If you have problems with explorerxp, you should take it up with the creators of that program.
