I looked around to see if anyone asked this, and not seeing anything, I ask here...
Has anyone experienced the BOINC agent closing? Twice in the past 2 days, after being away from my machine, I went to check on the progress, and the program closed. I clicked to reopen it, and it starts with no problem. I thought maybe it was an issue with either FAAH, or the BOINC itself. Could be my machine. I figure I would ask here first. If nobody here has seen this, I'll ask on the BOINC support forum. |

Hello TOMinAZ,
This is unprecedented. Could you explain more? There are 3 programs: BOINC Manager, BOINC client and project application. What OS and which BOINC version? What security software do you use? Lawrence |

I'm at work now, and don't have it in front of me.
I use Windows/XP The BOINC agent is the one that we were just advised to download a few weeks ago. I could look at it later if you need the actual version. I use Norton 360 for security. I don't get any error messages at all. It was running, with icon in the tray. Then it was gone, just like I would have exited it. The first time I thought maybe I had a power glitch and the machine rebooted, but no other running program showed evidence of having been interrupted (nor any clocks in my house). The second time, I was home, and out of the room for a few hours doing something else. If it was a machine problem, I would ahve seen other programs being kicked out. I decided to post this here first, since this never happened before the upgraded BOINC, so I thought maybe it was a bug in the newest version, or maybe something with an FAAH WU. I could repost this in the BOINC support forum, if that's more appropriate. |

Norton? There's a strong possibility that it killed BOINC. Check the logs, and check your configuration.
The first thing I do with an OEM computer is remove Norton and install security software that actually works. |

I've had Norton for years, but just recently upgraded to Norton 360.
Hm.... I'll check the logs and see. I'll have to guess the kill times for both incidents. If Norton killed it, he did it while I wasn't looking (sneaky). Thanks, this gives me a place to start. If that's the problem, then Norton will get some education from me. (Like a dog on the couch, maybe I'll catch him in the act) |

In my PC the opposite seems to occur.
A small window opens whenever I turn my PC off saying BOINC.exe couldn't be closed by Windows, but right after it closes and the PC turns itself off. So, I don't really care much to such message, because the Windows system seems to handle the problem and I don't need to do anything, but watch this little window every time I turn the PC off. I tried to fix the problem by reinstalling BOINC (install/repair), but it didn't correct it, so I don't know what it really is... As an extra explanation, I run BOINC at an Intel Motherboard/Processor 2@quad core with Windows XP SP3, and also run Norton Internet Security 2008. |

Hello Dan60,
I remember both Didactylos and Sekerob commenting about extra windows in various versions of BOINC (though under different circumstances). Could you tell us how you have installed BOINC (as service or as normal user, etc.)? What version of BOINC are you running? Did you use the WCG install package or a different installer? Lawrence |

When I click on "About BOINC Manager". it says I have version 6.2.18.
So far, it's run all night, and it didn't kick out. I did notice the that the screen saver for BOINC doesn't work, and I changed it to one of the ones that comes with Windows. I watched it try to start the BOINC screensaver, and it just made the screen freeze, then go to solid black. Maybe.... |

Enough has been written about the Screensaver alone to fill a book. See our FAQ for proper configuration under different circumstances (Still no SS for linux)
----------------------------------------HPF2 has not yet been upgraded to work with v.6, the beta displaying solid system hangs on e.g. Vista when using the SS with password, an issue that was to be permanently fixed with BOINC 6.

Lawrence Hello Lawrence, I've installed BOINC by downloading the installer from W.C.G. ( http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/reg/ms/viewDownloadAgain.do ) as the one appropriate for my machine. It's version is 5.10.45 and, as far as I understood, I'm a normal user Best regards. |
