Re: Will this project end within 120 days?

Keep the spirit for crunching, at least we trying to help the scientist find the cure biggrin
3 months ago, i'm happy when looking sekerob pie chart that fight aids complete 45%+ but right now the pie show 38,80% again sad

Well, this could now speed up pretty well, due to the soon coming zero redundancy of fa@h... The progress should now go nearly twice as fast... biggrin

Re: Will this project end within 120 days?

Yes, the experiments will, but thing is, the work planning is open and scheduled to continue through 2012, where before it was 2010, which is why the overall % progress went down.... it's time based as the actual work volumes are unknown. Fortunately the experiment status page gives a good sense of what is currently tested and the progress with them.

A thought looking at the Status page , it would be nice if Dr. Perryman could add the start and end dates of the experiments. We know the work for #24 is virtually complete, so jot in: Done August 25, 2008.

That said, one of the WCG staff has been tasked to develop better accessibility to the results and progress information and make them better understandable. When this task completes? As always: When the announcement is made.

Hi lawrence,

You're right that we do have many experiments lined up and ready for you. I am also in the process of laying the foundation for new experiments that we will perform in the future. Some of these new experiments will involve HIV-1c protease or HIV-2 protease. The "HIV-1c" subtype (or group of strains of HIV) is the form that is most common in Asia, while "HIV-2" is the most common form of HIV in Africa. The major pharmaceutcial companies tend to focus on "HIV-1b," which is the form found in the USA and in Europe, but FightAIDSatHome is devoted to trying to defeat all of the strains of HIV found around the globe.

You were wrong about the source of these experiments. The members of the FightAIDSatHome team at TSRI and UCSD come up with the ideas for these experiments. We certainly get data, ideas, and inspiration from the entire community of AIDS researchers, but the specific experiments performed on FightAIDSatHome were designed and created by us.

As long as HIV is a significant medical problem, there will be scientists like us who are committed to defeating it. If/when all mutant forms of HIV protease are eventually inhibited by good drugs, then we can shift our focus towards other targets from HIV, such as HIV integrase.

Thanks for your help,
Dr. Alex L. Perryman

Hello Sekerob,

That's a brilliant idea. Thank you much for the input. The Status page now lists the dates when a project began and when it was finished. Well, to be specific, these dates correspond to the first day when results for a particular experiment are sent to us at TSRI and to the day when the final results were received. These experiments haven't all been "finished" in my mind's eye, since we need to thoroughly analyze the results and repeat a small % of the calculations locally before that experiment is really done. But the dates on the Status page now indicate when the calculations are being performed on the grid.
