Re: 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing

The World Record Holder on the Marathon has long hesitated to go and still not heard if he committed. He was extremely concerned over the onslaught on his health due the air. A BBC article today with a chart of what is called "particle matter"

A significant notice, but what difference will the pollution make to the athletes?
Will the hosts be immune to the pollutants, or will they have a cumulative effect?

Gebrselassie? He will not run the marathon because of the air there, instead he will run the 10k on the track.

Re: 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing

The real outstanding questions are:
1, Will Sister Anna still carry the banner?
2. Who will carry Liverpool's Lambananner?
3. Who, if anyone, will dare to carry a genuine torch of freedom?

Re: 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing

• Olympics 2008: Chinese officials have thrown an almost smothering blanket of security across Beijing in preparation for the start of the Olympic Games on Friday. As China rolls out the welcome mat for Olympics visitors the government is cracking down on citizens. Read all about it on NYTimes.com/Olympics.

• I Am, Therefore I Pollute: The New York Times's Stanley Fish writes this week about being an enthusiastic believer in the goals of the environmental movement, but only in the abstract. Need a reason to be Green? Visit the Global Warming Times Topics page.
