Wouldn't a member crunching 20 machines every other day be more valuable to the scientists than someone with a single Pentium II on a battery backup?

But from the point of spreading the word about the WCG to the people 10 men with 1 computer is better that 1 man with 20 computers. At least I think so. ![]() |

I don't think that the badges will hook new people into WCG, but I have to admit that they are fun for people, like me, who have been around for a bit. It adds a little bit of 'flavor' to WCG that other BOINC projects do not have.
----------------------------------------It would be interesting to see maybe a designation for every 100 days of crunching on each project. A ring around the icon for every 100 days? Just a thought. Steve ![]() |

A computer corrected statistic system would be great. Someone crunching an hour with 486DX2/66Mhz truly has the same amount of dedication as someone doing the same with quadcore system. Probably less money though... My point being, you should really have to earn the badge. Not just to buy it.

Both systems may donate the same number of hours per core, but the quad will generate more points per WU, which may be why we have three measurements, hours, points and results. WCG is grateful for every donated CPU cycle, no matter what computer it comes from, but I am sure the scientists would rather see more quads. Even though I don't have a quad, I can't see "punishing" someone who is willing to donate time from a more expensive system. |

It would end up in an infinite debate as to what should be the measure of contribution to attain a badge. The suggestions were made, many how to expand this feature and so soon it will be and then it will really separate the men from the boys.
----------------------------------------The dynamic image that WCG has in preparation to make the widgets publishable pretty much anywhere, to include here in the forum sig the place to display points and results. In that I'll stick to mousie's stats sig generator.... nimble ;>)

And running time is starting to measure pretty much the same things that points do, as dual and quad core systems become more popular. I just thought it would be nice get some kind of a measurent, that would be equal for everyone (as running time was before). But I know it is easier to say than put into practice ![]()

how about a badge for
Sounds like a good way to make people avoid the projects with the longer workunits, which can be crunched for more than a full day with nothing returned. |
