Hi, I recently joined this project, and I would like to set the resource share. I have spent a long time searching the site, the FAQ and the forum without luck. I was able to set this on the respective websites of the other projects I joined -- is it possible to set this for WCG? If so, how?
Thanks. Asa |

Hello and Welcome Asa!
----------------------------------------Sure you can. Here in WCG it is called Project Weight, you can find it at the bottom of Profile pages in the Cross Project Settings section, and it works the same as in other Boinc projects. If with the profile you are using you don't see the details click on the "Custom Profile" radio button and you will see all parameters. Don't forget to click the Save button when finished. Now if your question is more about setting resource shares between WCG projects this is not yet possible. You can only select the WCG projects you want and then the servers distribute WUs from these projects on a fairly balanced basis. Cheers. Jean. |

Thanks! That was my question. I found it under "device profiles" rather than "my profile" after reading your tip.. and have now successfully increased my WCG project weight/resource share!
Any idea if there are plans for WCG to work with BAM Account Manager? Cheers |

I have not heard of BAM for several months.
----------------------------------------As far as WCG is concerned I would say "no", but maybe somebody else knows more? WCG uses secure communication for most of its website activity and I think that it was a problem for BAM. Cheers. Jean. |

BAM support was planned (before your time, Jean), but it has a low priority and has been ignored so far.
So, it is something WCG want to support, but no date is set for it. |

BAM could not be supported before we dropped UD. Now it is possible. But we are moving from Boulder, CO, to a new server farm with larger servers soon. And upgrading from DB2 ver. 7 to ver. 9, which knreed really really wants badly. And switching to the BOINC 6 API on everything to be ready. And switching whatever projects we can to single-redundancy. (
---------------------------------------- Do you find that confusing, Sekerob? We Inglese! A better way to say it would be 'switching to non-redundancy'.) And there are new projects and new phases for old projects to implement and test.So even though we have been intending to implement BAM almost since we started using BOINC, I don't know when it will show up. I have a tiny list of changes that I have been wanting since early 2005. (# of Active users, # of Active devices (computers) and upgraded mvnForum) Someday my ship will come in! 'single redundancy' is an 'Thread itle' introduction by Uplinger (who I think has German ancestry), but the trail goes back to a post by knreed on May 2, so indeed it could be You Inglese

BAM could not be supported before we dropped UD. Correct. We currently only allow read-only transactions from the account management systems. Once we remove everything from website that integrated us into the UD system and complete our working with hosting then we will be able look at allow update access (as well as perhaps even registration via the BOINC client itself). However, this will not be until late this year or start of next And upgrading from DB2 ver. 7 to ver. 9, which knreed really really wants badly. Hmmmm - did that come across? It is true though. That and tripling the amount of RAM the databases get to use ![]() |

Hi earthasa,
Better grin when you say things like that. There are a lot more resources being applied than you see. Help Defeat Cancer in New Jersey is getting some IBM assistance for the follow-up development. Similarly, IBM Brasil is working with Fiocruz on Genome Comparison, which is a long running project. In both cases, the public distributed computing project that we helped with was just a part of the total research effort. Just looking at the website, it is hard to distinguish between substantive changes that the project scientists notice and flourishes and curlicues that give the WCG a more polished appearance to the public. We want both, of course. We are increasing the number of results returned to the point that we will slow DDDT down slightly to allow the project scientists to keep up. So, all in all, we seem to be on track. knreed is getting a vacation next week, so we will probably have a metaphorical train wreck soon. Lawrence |
