Hi!
----------------------------------------My Boinc Client seems to get stuck after every job is done. I really dont know why. After starting restarting the client a few times it seemed to work again yesterday. But today again nothing happens. "Wating for contact to the project server" (i have the german client: "Warte auf Kontakt zum Projectserver") all the time. I even put all exe files from boinc to be allowed to the internet (although it worked fine before also). My server is dedicated to Fight@aids. upgraded to the new boinc client a few weeks ago P.S.: can anyone tell me what server ips are contacted (WCG/Boinc/fight Aids?) Hope someone can help me ! After restarting the client my message log looks this way (and boinc is always waiting for contact to the project server in simple view) 20.07.2008 15:01:44||Starting BOINC client version 5.10.45 for windows_intelx86 20.07.2008 15:01:44||log flags: task, file_xfer, sched_ops 20.07.2008 15:01:44||Libraries: libcurl/7.18.0 OpenSSL/0.9.8e zlib/1.2.3 20.07.2008 15:01:44||Data directory: C:\Programme\BOINC 20.07.2008 15:01:44||Processor: 1 AuthenticAMD AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3200+ [x86 Family 15 Model 47 Stepping 0] 20.07.2008 15:01:44||Processor features: fpu tsc pae nx sse sse2 3dnow mmx 20.07.2008 15:01:44||OS: Microsoft Windows XP: Professional Edition, Service Pack 3, (05.01.2600.00) 20.07.2008 15:01:44||Memory: 510.48 MB physical, 1.97 GB virtual 20.07.2008 15:01:44||Disk: 152.66 GB total, 2.53 GB free 20.07.2008 15:01:44||Local time is UTC +2 hours 20.07.2008 15:01:44|World Community Grid|URL: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/; Computer ID: 623919; location: (none); project prefs: default 20.07.2008 15:01:44||General prefs: from World Community Grid (last modified 08-Jan-2008 04:11:54) 20.07.2008 15:01:44||Host location: none 20.07.2008 15:01:44||General prefs: using your defaults 20.07.2008 15:01:44||Reading preferences override file 20.07.2008 15:01:44||Preferences limit memory usage when active to 204.19MB 20.07.2008 15:01:44||Preferences limit memory usage when idle to 204.19MB 20.07.2008 15:01:44||Preferences limit disk usage to 1.86GB [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Jul 20, 2008 1:21:31 PM] |

It looks like your memory allocations are very tight in your overrides. Is 204mb all you want to afford when you in fact have half a gig.

If memory is small I set the "Preferences limit memory usage when .."
----------------------------------------to 200% of available RAM size. This prevent RAM check from stopping up crunching. For firewall I use: LAN <range of IP of crunching machines> to allow WAN 129.33.89.132 upto 129.33.89.134. You can also access the WGC site within this range, but you cannot upgrade the BOINC, as this is taken from the Berkeley site. If there is a communication problem the BOINC will try to load www.google.com; I cannot guarantee that this is in the latest version. The BOINC try to see if the net is up, but this is blocked by the firewall setting above. Except from a message, no problem results from this. Check you setting for when BOINC is allowed to access the network. Happy crunching! ![]() |

Hey rainman_mellik,
Did you find the issue? I'm currently having the same problem with both my computers. I even tried to connect to 2 different networks (my wireless and my neighbor's) without any luck. Please let us know if you figured it out. Thanks |

Hello sansanwawa,
Yeah, i also have that problem. All the projects already to report but it show waiting to "Wating for contact to the project server". i Quit the boinc client and restart, but i loose all the projects but the boinc work again. it happen to my all pc's ![]() What does 'Lose all the projects' mean? Boinc should restart all current running projects at the last check point and send all the result files waiting to be sent. Lawrence |

lawrencehardin,
If Sansanwawa has the same problem I do, all the projects have uploaded their results and now are set to "Ready to report", but no new WU gets downloaded. So it looks like BOINC is stuck with those old projects. I tried restarting the client, restarting the computer, connecting to a different network... nothing helps!!! ![]() |

lancelot (and anyone else with this problem), please will you click "Update" in the "Projects" tab, then go to the "Messages" tab and copy the messages there. Wait until it says "Scheduler request succeeded" or "Scheduler request failed" before you copy them.
Thank you. |

With the information provided it's not clear what's going on. Where do you see i.e. "waiting to contact server"? My clients work uninterrupted and probably 99.99% does, so what happened at the few who see this? Did you have the Beta jobs, for they had a wrong time prediction which effected the Time to Complete estimate for all the jobs that came afterwards.
----------------------------------------As for preventing confusion, please don't use the word of Project for a Work Unit or Task. A Project is the generic reference to the 5 that WCG has running, like RICE or HPF2. Ready to Report has a reason. Ready To Report and no new work being fetched means that your client is somehow confused and thinks it cannot complete any task in time. So do following: 1. In projects tab, select WCG and chose "No new Tasks" button. 2. Hit update button. This should clear the Ready to Report. then, 3. After making sure no work units / tasks are in progress and the Ready to Reports lines are gone return to the Projects tab of BOINC manager, select WCG and hit Reset. That should normalise most parms on which Work fetch is computed. then, 4. While WCG is still selected, hit the "Allow New Tasks". Let it run for longer so that BOINC can re-find it's balance. ttyl
